Odd unlocking problem - Search not fruitful

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I'm suffering from an issue with my central locking.

1) The drivers door, and only that one, doesn't open with the remote key. All other doors open fine.

2) The key in the lock opens the door fine.

3) Courtesy light and door open indicator work, as well as the puddle light.

4) The button on the window switch panel will lock all the doors fine, but won't open the drivers door.

5) Pulling the handle will open the lock pin.

6) Remote locking works fine, all the doors close.

It feels like nothing is activating when I press the button like it does on the other doors. Is it likely that I have an electrical problem, or maybe something has fallen off which is why it will lock but not unlock?

Cheers Guys.

Sounds like the microswitch in the drivers door mechanism has failed.

Sounds like the microswitch in the drivers door mechanism has failed.

If that had happened, would it not have issues locking too?

I suppose for less than a tenner, it wouldn't hurt to try replacing it. I saw the sticky at the top of the forum, I guess it's a well known issue.

Before you do that, whip off the trim and check that you don't have water in the control unit, I had those exact symptoms, and found loads of corrosion on the door loom, and water visibly draining from the control unit.

Is a no cost thing to check before you go spending money on bits.

Central locking issues on the mk1 Octavia are very common. Strangely it doesn't seem to be a problem on other VAG mkiv Golf derived cars. I can only put it down to the Octavia doors letting moisture in.
