Is there a technique to removing the centre vent?

 

I suspect removal is achieved using the standard "man up, grab it and tug hard" technique that seems to work with most trim that isn't screwed down, but as the consequence of getting it wrong could be a damaged dash, I'd rather be reassured before I start getting medieval with the thing

 

It's got metal spring clips underneath and plastic grippers on top, so I suspect that's the the right answer but I'd like to be sure.

That is I am sure the correct technique, same as on the Octy MK2. First few times I had the vent out of my old Octy it was a very tight fit.

I can confirm that this pretty much works; using plastic trim removal tools I lifted the bottom up/forward, then (with dash top box removed) pushed down on the upper clips and the unit came free. Hazards and airbag warning light loom disconnected and out it slid.

 

Access around the top of the dash is excellent with the box and vents out, so wiring the DAB into the new one should be a breeze.

 

Not being a fan of securing controls with sticky pads and distorting trim panels to get wires through, I'm a lot happier with my new modified vent
