Remaps & dyno runs

Featured Replies

Do they go together? More precisely, when a tuner quotes a price for his, say Stage 1, remap does this usually include a before and after run? Because (maybe erroneously) I thought it did. I am currently considering a Stage 1 remap offer but I was told it doesn't include dyno runs which cost an additional 90 GBP per run. Meaning for a before and after measurement the price is actually going up by 180 GBP (in currents rates / i am not in the UK) and it's kind of making me have second thoughts about it. The remap's price itself is quite high to begin with but I was ok with it due to the tuner's reputation but not having some solid data on what exactly I have added to the car doesn't sound very reassuring...

A dyno run is normally between £30-50 depending on where you go

But it's indeed an extra charge usually?

Normally yes but depends where you go , just enquire with the company you chose to do the mapping

  • Author

Well with them it's certainly an extra as I wrote in the OP. The remap is a well-known one with proven gains so it's not really a matter of confirming whether it's good or not, it's just a feeling of not doing things as they "should" be done...

Hi mate,

Some people offer it in with the price, others dont.

as above a std price would be £50, but you may get as low as £30 on a deal.

Have pm'd you some info.

I would recommend you get the dyno done before and after though, as you will be able to see the most important information, your gains.

Both times I've had cars remapped the dyno run was not included

Some revo dealers do it for free but normally only as a special offer

I'd want to see a before and after dyno run as it's the gains you're paying for.  They might think you're just paying for some software they're squirting in which should do what they claim.

Whos Stage 1 MAP are you looking at having & done by who.?

Best have new plugs fitted after having the before Dyno done unless you have already.

Hopefully not from REVO.

Anyone that can do an APR Stage 1 near you ?

  • Author

Yes it's an APR one but I'm outside UK and the area was hard to find a nearby re-seller. I would prefer not disclosing any more info though.

I'll probably go for before and after runs as well but I've not planned a plug change. On a discussion we had some time ago I was told the remap is designed to work on stock plugs normally so although not a bad idea probably, it's not obligatory. I will pair the remap with an ITG induction given all the praise it's got from other members but I don't know If and by how much that would offer any additional "protection" against possible issues to be honest.

The fact it is an APR is enough info for peace of mind.

As to the Spark Plugs,

OK if they are with Stock Plugs, but you must know they are good, and if they are due to be changed in the near future,

surely you would change anyway.

The plugs can be past there best but not show misfires on the Codes stored when doing a Diagnostic check,

&

since the Orginals are not great, and upgrade at about 50% more expensive & good to go with more poke,

they must be worth thinking about.

Thats just something to reduce the risks of any failures.

How many miles has your car done. ?

Actually, considering the cost of the entire stage 1 project (remap, dyno runs, induction upgrade) the cost of spark plugs is peanuts really. Although with local prices I won't be too surprised to hear something like 100 GBP for the change... Maybe worth ordering independently plugs and that coil removing tool and do it myself.

43K km ~ 26.7K miles

At 27,000 miles you would be as well to change them.

I think Sparkly's were 10,000 more and fine,

but since you are going for more performance, it just seems like sensible to.

Surely the person doing the map has a Coil Remover, (or make one like mine, takes 2 minutes)

& can change the plugs, for the 15 minutes it takes.

If not, then i would have them no place near my engine compartment or the ECU.

APR - All Parts Replaced afterwards....

Certainly with some with Twinchargers that went Stage 2 or stage 3.

But there are some running Twincharger vRS at stage 1 with no problems or issues.

& prepared to recommend the APR stage 1 Map,

Switchable via the Cruise Control switch also recommended by me.

????

Has anyone on here had a bad experience of a 'Stage 1 APR map' with a 1.4 TSI CAVE Twincharger?

Before remapping, obviously you want to be sure you have a good engine to increase the performance on,

so 'Running in a higher level of tune'.

Have good spark plugs and no issues as the base.

As the REVO instructions to Dealers set out.

No issues here

That was one of the reasons I wanted to wait for a reasonable time before I decided which map I would go for. All but good words on the APR stage 1 for our 1.4 tsi, whereas I have read about various issues with some other popular tuners. That been said I am not interested in turning this thread in a tuners debate at all, there are many many many others which have done this to a far greater extent I believe.
