Fabia Suspension Knock

Featured Replies

Fabia estate 1.9 Sdi, 02/2002, 50k miles, 1 year old, used as a taxi. Front n/s suspension has started to 'thump' when accelerating out of roundabouts. Feels a bit like the wheel out of balance. If the brake pedal is 'stabbed' at 2-3 mph I can feel the wheel coming back. Checked everything with bars etc and could find no play in any component. So off to taxi testing station. They couldn't find any play either, until we used the brake tester. With the tester on his back and using a lead light, I was snatching the brakes. Lo and behold, the front bush on the lower arm is shot. I'll change it in the next couple of weeks and let you know.

Asked other people who said the bush looks O.K. Did the 50k service today, and with the undertray off, could see more easily, and solved the problem. The plastic shroud surrounding the anti-roll bar where the clamp goes around had come out of the clamp. Undid clamp, knocked shroud back in and did clamp back up. Result, no more wheel jumping about all over the place!
