Awful Rattling From Fabia Clutch?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I purchased a new fabia monte carlo tech 1.2 105 tsi just before Christmas last year.

After a few days of driving it I noticed that when the clutch is fully pressed down and the car wheels are moving (forwards or backwards) it makes an awful rattling noise.

The noise sounds like chattering and you can hear it inside the car with the windows up at its worse!

I have attached a few audio clips of the sound (you will need to turn your speakers up!), let me know if you need any more information.

I have taken it to skoda but the mechanics couldn't reproduce the fault and told me to bring it back if it gets worse.

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks,

Monte

Dual mass flywheel death rattle? I don't think the clutch is covered under warranty sadly because it's a consumable item.

If it happens mainly when the clutch is depressed, its more than likely a relese bearing issue over a duel mass flywheel i would have thought?

monte, does it make the same noise when in neutral with the clutch down and the wheels rolling? If so, does it still make the noise if the same exercise is carried out with the clutch up in neutral and wheels rolling? Not sure if you have a dual mass flywheel on the TSI, I've not worked on one so cannot confirm. Doesn't sound like a release bearing to me. With your foot on the pedal they normally go quiet unless they are short of grease and can actually intermittently seize making a rather alarming noise. It's doesn't sound like that. I'm inclined to think it's something else at this stage.

Yes.

No, if I take my foot off the clutch pedal the noise instantly goes away.

Any Ideas?

Thanks again for your help guys !

Monte - Check the undertray (if you have one) - mine made an awful rattle under some load conditions, but fine under driving - one of the sprung screws had untwisted and the undertray was vibrating against the housing.

If I recall, there was a thread on the fuel pipes in the conduit at the back of the engine bay rattling and a subsequent fix by Skoda?

Plus I posted a thread on the DSG box rattling like a Ducati dry clutch though not applicable here.

Update: had it in at skoda again and they told me its the clutch plate or thrust bearing or both!

Monte
