Switched lives in Fuse box...

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hopefully an easy one...

I want to replace my Stream MP3 stereo with my Pioneer headunit. I have a Mini-Blade fuse type "Add a Circuit" thing. I didn't look at the description properly and realised when the mini one was delivered.

In the fusebox(s), are there any switched lives going through Mini Blade fuses? I would assume a high amp supply would be better to come off of and put the correct fuse for my stereo in the add on part? The stereo has a 10a fuse in the back of it. Or, are there any empty fuse spaces that have a switched supply going to them?

I also bought an in-line standard blade type fuse holder aswell, so can come off of any feed really...

The car is a 2006 '56' Octavia Elegance with no modifications at all, unless Cambridgeshire Constabulary have messed with the wiring/fusebox. ..

Any help is very much appreciated! :)

When i hard wired my sat nav in i just used a spare ignition live terminal in the fuse box,i cant remember exactly which one it was but it was easy to find with a meter.

I just did the same for my dashcam, switched live and has no fuse fitted (metal connector on one side only). I used a mini piggy back fuse holder.

I can't take a picture as it's lashing down but very easy to find with a multimeter.

So theres options in the box then, good to know!

I have a fuse holder, and one of the "add a circuit" things, but not a meter lol I'll use a grounded 12v lamp and try some free slots... Cheers guys!

I have used one of these piggyback fuse connectors with no issues. I needed a 12v supply for my TV Antenna. I piggy backed off the lighter fuse. Just take out the original fuse, place the piggy back in. The first slot is for the original fuse and the second is for your new piggybacked feed. It's easy to try on the lighter fuse as the lighter will either work or not work so you can trial it out.

Second row of mini fuses I am sure mine is plugged between the 5amp and 10amp but I do know that locations change in these fuseboxes (just ask FUBAR :))

Grounded lamp will work perfect and you can use the top screw of the fusebox as ground.

Save guessing here is my setup:-

New headunit works! Put the "add a circuit" thing in the towing electrics outlet, I can't see me ever having a towbar fitted...I did manage to blow the main radio fuse somehow, caused a bit of an annoyance for 10mins until I thought to check it!!

Now just to run power and audio cables to the boot then put it back together... I Just hope the Connects2 facia fits ok! :/
