Horrific High Pitched Squeal & Erratic Idle

Featured Replies

I'd really appreciate any help I can get here, I desperately need the car for tomorrow.

Just been to have my cam follower changed as a precaution on my 2006 Octavia vRS TFSI, all was good initially.

On my journey home the car suddenly developed an insanely loud squealing noise and the next time I came to a stop the idle is erratic. It goes up to 2k revs, then back down.

Squealing continued even at 40mph-ish. I then pulled over and came to a stop, turned the engine off for a minute and the squealing has stopped but the revs are still going up to 2k then back down.

Seems to be driving okay still (I made the journey home) but has left me feeling like I really don't want to drive it, despite having a long journey I desperately need to make.

After researching a little more, it seems that the idle is commonly caused by the PCV valve?

Would this also explain the squealing?

Green Flag have been called out, not too sure how much help they'll be though!

Green Flag were useless anyone able to shed any light?

Bildo, when you say cam follower, do you mean cam belt?  May account for the silence from the forum.
