VCDS Error 22 When Trying to Code Bluetooth on RNS 315

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm new here, and to the world of Skoda.

I've just picked up a brand new 14 plate Roomster, unfortunately I didn't get to spec the car myself (Special Edition), but I though I would be able to swap out the Swing Radio for a RNS 315, run the mic cable, tick the box in VCDS and away I go. But... when I untick the box in the long coding section and then click Do It, it throws back an error code 22, and doesn't code the option.

I've tried coding other options, like disabling AUX2 for example, and the same thing happens. So I am assuming it's not related to the bluetooth option itself.

Could it be something in the CAN gateway that I am missing or something? I'm not sure where I should start looking with this.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Cris

Not all of the RNS315/Amundsen+ units have BT fitted, best way to check is to look for a MAC address on the headunit. If you don't see one or they are all zeros then unfortunately it doesn't have BT.

Search on forum as there is a picture of the label your looking for.

If your following my how to and ticking the box and you get an error more likely the answer is not fitted.

What software version of VCDS are you using?

  • Author

I am using 12.12

I checked the label before fitting, there is a MAC code on it.

No option will program, so I don't think it's the lack of a BT that is the problem. I can't program the code to the RNS315 at all. I can put it into developer mode, so I can talk to it, just not code it.

Cheers

I've got the only one listed under the Skoda section on that link.

I think the RNS315 I have is not correctly coded, but I don't know enough about VCDS to understand what the errors I am seeing mean, here are the outputs from the scan (edited down to the problem areas)...

Here is a screenshot of the error VCDS throws up when I try coding the Nav module...

VCDS-Error22.png

Clear all the fault codes and try again, they look like they have been caused by disconnecting wires with the system still live.

The gateway errors and cluster errors should clear once the RNS is coded correctly.

Having an 'incorrectly coded' error on 19-CAN Gateway would be my starting point.

It is basically an 'instalation list' that needs the correct options ticked.

Maybe Bluetooth or something hasn't been ticked to enable it in the list.

Check there and post screen shots of the list if possible.

Then clear the codes and see what comes back as it is likely most/all have appeared as a result of changing the headunit.

  • Author

That is also my guess, but I can't code the RNS315 at all, it throws back an error 22 (see the screen shot above), and then I'm stumped. So I thought I would try and pick few brains here.

It's really getting on my nerves now. I've tried clearing the codes and starting from scratch, still comes back with the same error 22, and coding I do gets rejected.

Is it possible that the gateway on my car is not comparable with the module in the RNS315 ???

Cheers

Cris

Your gateway appears to be from a Roomster and fairly recent, so no reason why it shouldn't be.

Have you sent a full scan to Ross Tech (assuming you have a genuine cable & a support package)?

What are you trying to code in the 'Navigation' controller?

Have you unticked 77-Telephone? AFAIK that is for the external BT / telephone module not the inbuilt one. Just wondering if that is causing a conflict (doubt it though).

untick 77 as the BT is in the Radio

although I don't think it is that that is stopping the coding

  • Author

Cleared all the codes, re scanned and only had one fault left, that was the GPS antenna and I know that will show as a fault as it isn't connected! Unticked 77 etc...

Still the same, error 22 thrown back every time I try to code it. Tried all sorts, just about to give up on it and maybe try another RNS 315.

It seems strange that I can't code any option onto it.

Any further ideas before I go splash some more cash ???

Cheers

Cris

37 - Navigation & 56 - Radio are (in a Columbus) basically the same thing.

Coding changes in one are reflected in the other. Have you tried coding it in 56 - radio?

Have you checked that both module shave the same coding applied?

  • Author

I don't think it works like that in the RNS 315. Tried it, I can't code anything as it says module not found. I don't think this is related to the Error 22 issue I am having.

Cheers

Cris

try coding it again but add 00 to the end

  • Author

try coding it again but add 00 to the end

Just run out to try it, throws this error...

VCDS-Error13.png

I tried something different, I tried to program back the exact same code that is reported to be in there already, I get the same Error 22 !!!

So it is nothing to do with the code I am actually trying to change, but the ability to code the RNS315 at all !!!

I think that is a little step forward in my understanding of this problem.

Have you contacted Ross Tech?

Have you contacted Ross Tech?

I will do.

I'm thinking that this unit might be faulty anyway. It's not keeping station presets etc....

I was leaning towards that conclusion myself. But not knowing the specific error codes you are getting I didn't want to say anything.

  • Author

Yep, faulty unit. Tried another one today, codes up fine with bluetooth etc...

Now a very happy Skoda owner :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello, How do you know it is faulty unit? Have the same issue, my RNS315 is not keeping station presets and other settings. Maybe it is something not compatible.
