rSAP - am I being thick ?

Featured Replies

Mark, really appreciate all of your help with this. I will try the rooting.

BUT I wanted to check what I will be able to do as a result of all of this that I cant with a standard Bluettoth connection.

I believe it's texts being read out (good) but what else ?

As well as reading out SMS you'll be able to read them on the Columbus or on the MFD.  You'll also be able to compose SMS using the touchscreen.  Using rSAP over HFP also gives you the advantage of using the external, active GSM/3G antenna on the roof (which gives much better reception).  Given that you have the latest module, with Wi-Fi, it also means that you'll retain internet access for your phone as well as sharing access to anything else in the car... While this is possible with an Android phone normally, it will kill your battery. Oh wait, that's the other advantage: handing off all the cellphone functions to the car means that the battery on the phone isn't hit as hard.

Hope this helps,

Things you can do with rSAP that you can't with the standard connection.

  • send/receive SMS and read out/display on maxi-dot.
  • set up a wifi hotspot using the bluetooth module
  • calls and texts will use your phones battery and antenna rather than the antenna in the car which gets a better signal.

that's all I can think of for the moment.

You can still get access to your phonebook and call history using the standard connection.

Mark, how do you find the Nexus 5 ? My 4 is brilliant, easily the best phone I've had, but only had it a year, so couldn't justify going to a 5 yet.

I guess if I do a backup before unlocking the boot loader, I can do a restore as per normal ?

What do you use to backup the phone? Restoring your stuff will work as before. The bootloader unlock and root is fully reversible when you want to.

I find the Nexus 5 faster than the 4 and the screen is a great improvement.

I normally just use the standard Google backup. I guess the only pain is that I will have to reinstall of all my apps (and I have a lot !)

I have heard really good things about the 5 and I m sure I will get there (I suppose in many ways having a new phone makes ll of this easier to do anyhow ?)

Thanks though, appreciate it

I'm afraid I can't help you there: I've only used 4G Samsung Galaxies S3, S4 and Note 8 with my car.  They all come with unlocked bootloaders so it's just a straightforward case of rooting these and installing the rSAP profile.  My Dad has a Nexus 5 and swears by it rather than at it so I reckon it must be pretty good to overcome that level of technophobia :giggle:

hey

so allegedly this works for reading out text messages, and doesn't require a root/unlocking to get it working, and will play text over whatever bluetooth audio stream you have (so if you dont have media audio, it will work over voice etc etc)

Part number should be along these lines: 5N0 035 730 C or 5P0 862 335 D

The 5N0 / 5P0 part is the originating manufacture & vehicle;

The 035 730 or 862 335 is the part number (common across the VAG range);

The suffix letter C or D is the revision to the part number.

We need all these parts to be able to help you further. The part numbers you have given don't in my experience or knowledge, match any VAG BT modules.

I have 5n0035730d is this compatible?

Biggest issue I have with rsap is that if you finish your journey with a call still in progress you have to drop the call and call back in again when on handset. This is so much of an issue for me that I stopped using rsap.

Being able to continue a call after leaving the car without interruption is a must for me and wasn't worth the text/signal benefits of rsap.

Thanks

Steve

It's compatible with rSAP but not with WiFi.

There's a very useful reference chart here:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Telephone_Retrofitting

which says that your model is the equivalent of the 3C8035730B (which is what my MY12 Superb came with).

Hope this helps,

Mark, you seem to be the font of all knowledge! How come you know so much all of this?

I decided I am going to get the Galaxy S3 set up with rSAP first as that should be a bit easier to start with....

Cheers

Mark, you seem to be the font of all knowledge! How come you know so much all of this?

I've spent much of a long summer in Greece trying to get 3 phones, 3 tablets and a 'phablet' to play nicely with my Superb - largely through trial and error - but other posters here have been great with pointing out the 'gotchas' involved. And, now, everything works as it should with internet access both home and abroad, phonebooks working across multiple devices and Torque too! :-)

Sorting the S3 first is a good plan since it really should work out-of-the-box with rSAP. Good luck...
