CAVE vs CTHE the final battle!

Featured Replies

Sorry not been on. Been having issues... whether it was my end or brisky I dont know.

Im not test driving one no. I will just happen to be at awesome at the same time one is going...

If its anything to go by, went out for a pootle about last night. My brother decided he want to show his remap of in his a1.. he wasnt happy. You could of attached a metre ruler to the back of his car and been able to reach it from the passenger seat of the car I was in. I can deffo say that the cthe IS faster than cave. Just how much is yet to be proven. Interesting conversation last night with a few work mates last night. One raised the point that the ecu on a cthe is still tricore. So in theory the same process to get around that is used on the cave engine/ecu. Different map yes but same security.

  • I'm guessing which engine produces the most power and torque to litres of oil used over three dyno runs.

  • Hopefully getting RARB fitted in a couple of weeks so while it's in I will ask them to put it on the rollers....  Dont mine paying and the curiosity has got the better of me.

  • Attached to a gps speed device. My car is 6.9 seconds (with some tire slip) and this car did it in 6.2 on cold roads this morning. And felt like it wasnt trying if that makes sense.

Mathewl,

if it uses 1 litre in 9,400 miles that will be £8., & 2 will be £16.

They do not use oil unless they are faulty.

I will show you if the level is correct, and check it for you 2 weeks later.  no probs.

45 litres of Super unleaded is £59, Depending how you drive that will take you between 320-400 miles,

you should not be using any Oil.

Oh right! I have been reading all day that people have been using 1 litre every 1000 miles! I thought that was excessive but liveable. so its more like 1 litre every 10,000 miles? if so what the hell is everybody complaining about haha.

would you say that you are having to top up your oil regularly george? i dont know why i have been worrying if its that little.

P.S I do around 25 miles a day, mainly town driving with the occasional boot up to 50mph, currently in my focus im getting a whooping 17.2mpg on my daily commute :) Im hoping that the vRS will be a lot better than this. im over the moon that it has the same performance as the focus!

Exactly.

learn to check the oil, and do not overfill, and if faulty have Skoda honour the Warranty.

They built a Warm Hatch and sell them, you should be able to enjoy them.

Re Remaps on CTHE.

Any security can be bypassed, but if you have a Warranty, you might not want to Void it,

If you are paying to Tune and its your car have done what you want to do, just do not expect Warranty Cover.

Take the £5,000 gamble.

(& maybe dont take it with REVO.)

I wont poke the fire by stating my oil consumption for you matthewl.

As george will tell you. Just enjoy your car. To be honest im happy to pay the price for the oil I use. At least I know its fresh ;) knly because its under extended warranty that im getting it done.

Just a note to you. Check your badges before youu leave for whiteworm. They cant be replaced under extended warranty ive just been informed. Going to have to speak to pastyboy methinks.

&

if it has the same performance as your Focus it is a faulty Twincharger, or your Focus was tuned.

Re remaps. Was talking to sparkly about this last night. Not getting mine done till its sorted its not worth the risk. . Dont fancy forking out for an engine.

Then

http://goapr.com

But Extended Warranties also void if Modified.

Maybe a Tuning Box and cross your fingers.

Yeah I realise if I map it I lose warranty. It runs out in september. But I dont want to map it and it rip itself to bits. Its an oil burner. That I know. What I dont know is what else is wrong. IE; what is going to be exaggerated by me mapping....

Needs a new engine really,

then when you get it fitted buy an Extended Warranty rather than a Remap,

as it is they can go into corners at 120 mph, and not guaranteed to come out,

Suspension might be a better thing to spend on and keep the Warranty Valid.

Very sorry but i do not understand that statement?

I really hate quoting figures but here goes

I was merely referring to book figures, for what the focus is it isnt a very fast car 2.5, 5 cylinder turbo! book figure is 6.8seconds 0-60 (i prefer quoting in gear speeds, eg 30-70) my focus wasnt tunes at all.

the fabia is supposedly 7.3, which is a small 5 tenths of a second. therefore IMO the fabia has pretty much the same performance (Book Figures) as the focus.

are you saying that the fabia will be quicker or that my focus was? im very confused.

Your car will do 140 and reach 60 in 7.3 seconds, it bleeds oil like a stuck pig and you are looking at "tuning" it - go figure???

Its OK you dont need to quote figures, just go to Crail.

(Performance Ford day at the Thrash this Sunday.)

Did your Focus just do Fords Official Figures or could it better them, ? all the ones i know better them.

The Focus will have gone around corners better, thats for certain.

vxh26,

it will do 0-100 km in under 7 seconds and top speed is what you keep the pedal down to,

so 135 might be enough to loose your licence.

I don't really see the point in modifying an already 'fast' car for road use personally.

my plan is when i pick it up on thursday, centre box removal and maybe some really good tyres come summer time. thats as much as i will do, promise!

with the focus its all about in gear speeds, like 30-70, its a complete pig to get off the line... i was running goodyear asymmetric and it would still spin up off the line, from a 1200rpm launch, so nothing extreme at all and it would still spin up through first and sometimes into second.

when on the move though it keeps audi S3-S5's on their heals and 3.0t A5 quatros in the dust!

I still dont get what youre saying haha, i didnt really get chance to drive a fabia aggressively on a test drive so dont know how it will compare.

If that was aimed at me.... im not on about tuning it no. This is all hypothetical. If I want to go fast I have something for that. I have no intention of tuning it whilst it is using oil. I have various parts already waiting to go on but I have not done so as it uses so much oil.

George, as you said I think I will just look at suspension for the time being as I have it in writing that any adjustments to the underside of my car (suspension etc) will not affect the ongoing arguements with skoda/dealer/warranty company. Just whilst I have your attention george, although not really relevant. But dealer is doing their own oil con test as the figures from mine 'dont seem right at all'

Why on earth would you want to remove the centre box? The vRS isn't that quiet as it is and removing the centre box will likely not improve the performance at all.

Tyres maybe, suspension tweaks if you must but just enjoy what is an understated performance car as it was built :)

Where does it say any thing about centre box??

mathewl,

you will find out what wheel spin is like in the vRS off the line.

Mopeds will leave you for dead to 30 mph

why i mentioned rolling through the Camera up to Blackburn.

TH3Grinch,  post#29,

the thread is now mixed with vxh26 speaking to mathewl

Centre box for the 'popz an bangz, init', no really though my first impressions were that the vRS was a pretty quiet car. remove this, a bit louder, fun times. It'll be no louder than a focus st on standard system thats for sure..

That little "Quote" button on the bottom-right of every corner is there for a reason, lol!

Sorry newbie69,

i can never see it.

Ah ok. Ill just sit in my corner unless im beckoned....

mathewl, not going for stealth then.

mathewl, not going for stealth then.

Stealth as far as keeping it standard looking yes, but its only a 40cm long box that im removing, in the grand scheme of things its pretty small.. plus pops and bangs make me smile..
