Tinksy's Octavia VRS Progress

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a 61 plate Octavia VRS.  It's absolutely fabulous :)  I'm totally new to this type of car, so open to suggestions on improvements and modifications.  Here is the car as standard when I bought it on 13 March 2014.

15 March 2014 - The first mod was to get a CRD-T tuning box fitted from DTUK.  Car is so much more responsive since fitting the box :)

22 March 2014 - Second mod was to get the rear windows tinted.  Went for the darkest tint.

I also fitted the front wind deflectors.  I have the rears waiting to fit but need to let the window tints settle first :)

So what do you guys and gals think?

Nice base. I'd say HID's are worth a go if it hasn't got xenon headlights, although if you don't do much night driving it could wait while winter.

Otherwise unless you go down the route of lowering/spacers/wheels I think there's not much to do exterior wise that you haven't already, I think they are a nice looking thing to start with. Gloss black wrap on the B pillars maybe to go with the tints?

Eibach proline lowering springs are getting fitted on Saturday :)  I've seen a few people have fitted spacers but not sure whether I will or not yet.

I've also been thinking about a gloss black roof.  Again, It's just an idea at the minute :)

Ahh good man. Spacers are a preferential thing, I prefer wheels to sit a bit more flush than in-set but not everyone does.

Black roof could work nicely. Only ever liked it on white cars too funnily enough :)

Good man?  :giggle:    What spacers do you have?

Edited by Tinksy

White is cool, colour coded or black grille to get rid of the chrome maybe?

Spacer width depends on how you want the wheels to sit. 15-20mm rear & 10mm front seems to be a popular choice.

It's all about personal preference ;)

I do want to de-chrome.  Black would probably look good.  Can you buy black grilles or would it need wrapping or spraying?

Is there a type of spacers that people recommend?

Stick with hubcentric spacers, I just painted mine (spray) others have used plastidip as that doesn't need much prep and can be peeled off easily.

Oops :( should be a bit more careful shouldn't I.

I only tried 20mm and 15mm because I already had them. 20s on the rear which would catch if you went too low. 15 on the front wasn't bad at all. That was with the standard wheels on anyway.

Is plastidip durable though?

haha yes you should :)

The Eibach springs lower about 30mm so I'll probably get that done first and then look at spacers :)

Seems to be from what I've seen/heard

I might look into that then, cheers :)

Not from my experience! Started peeling after <24 hrs!

Did you do it yourself or had it professionally done?  24 hours doesn't sound right!!

NEW UPDATE

29 March 2014

Had the car lowered on Eibach Prolines.  Not quite as low as I'd like but does look much better :)

Did it myself... Followed instructions on can... Was impressed to start with.

Looks good :). Are you fitting rear wind deflectors?

I have just fitted them.  Needed to wait for the window tints to settle first.  I'll post some pics in a bit :)

NEW UPDATE

I'm a bit behind with the updates   I had the chrome grill surround wrapped in June.  I think it looks much meaner :)

Then today I have had the wheels refurbished and colour changed to deep anthracite.  I absolutely love these.  It's the best mod I've done so far :)
