Don't pay £249.

The first (variable) service includes fresh oil and an oil filter. Nothing else. This costs £129 according to Skoda's 'National Pricing Policy' as linked above.

Skoda list the air, fuel and pollen filter as being included in the more expensive variable service but puts an * next to them stating that they are only replaced if required.

A quick check of the service booklet supplied with the car will show that none of the additional variable service items are required before 3 years.

So the £249 variable service is a con. You are getting fresh oil and a visual check and that's it - exactly the same as the cheaper minor / fixed service.

I always ask for the minor service (£129) and then ask for the fuel, air and pollen filter to be done as extra's for an extra £70 - £200 all in.

By asking the question you've just saved either £120 or £50!

Had my first service a few weeks back, 18,500 on the clock and cost £187.99 inc vat, Skoda dealer.

Take Silver's advice, he is 100% correct get the £129 oil & filter service.

Nothing else gets changed at that mileage as I recently found out, not even a totally blackened air filter :(

You can add air filter and fuel filter to the list when you book it in and still get it done for less than £249 at the main dealers.

I was quoted £225 incl VAT on the phone for the first variable service when car was 2 years old and just over 18,000 miles.  Actually charged £200.75 incl VAT.  Invoice showed oil and filters for oil, air, fuel and pollen.  A local VAG specialist quoted £195.

Completed in under 1½ hours when I waited (I took a good book!) and car washed and vacuumed.
