Repairing laquer on vRS Spoiler

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of having a crack at repairing the lacquer on the spoiler of the Fabia - I've done quite a bit of detailing etc before on various cars so I have a basic understanding of how to do it but just wanted to know if anyone had tried a DIY job before and how much success you had? An alternative might be to wrap the spoiler, which I might have a go at if it goes wrong!

I'm thinking of sanding the lacquer back, and just re-lacquering with some clear lacquer.

You'll probably have to repaint it, not just respray the lacquer - the lacquer protects the paint.. No harm in trying though!

I'm in a similar predicament, nearest bodyshop has quoted £150 (which I think is a bit high).  Got to be done - it really spoils the rest of the car.

I would personally sand right back and respray.

I would also personally let a bodyshop do it :D  I also do a lot of car detailing but I steer WELL clear of anything involving new paint.

im thinking of wrapping mine will work out alot cheaper but may try flatting back, polishing and laquering first for the sake of a few quid

100% needs taking right back. Just had mine done and it looks perfect know.

Complete strip prime and respray colour and lacquer I'm afraid, I just had mine wrapped in CF

Been quoted £50 to wrap the spoiler and £100 for the roof, that's using 3M wrap and the spoiler comes off the car to do a pukka job

Ok, I think I'll give it a try myself before bodyshop and if I make a total arse of it I'll get a bodyshop to do it. Either way I'll post the results for your entertainment

I had seen this

I'm not too fussed if it's not perfect as it's not a particularly visible panel, and it's usually covered in several layers of filth as it's used as a motorway hack.
