Strange Dmf and gearbox problems

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Im new here but after some wisdom off of someone who knows alot more than me haha !!

Basicly my 2007 se vrs gained a rattle 2 weeks ago and i assumed dmf. Both dmf and clutch have been replaced along with clutch release bearing but there is still a noise. The old dmf was confirmed to be knackered btw.

The noise is present when the car is in neutral and clutch in the up position. As soon as the soon is depressed the noise goes away.

Also when driving there is rattle present in the lower rpm along with a radial noise. The gearbox oil was replaced but the old stuff need have a grey metallic layer on it .Please could someone help with this issue..driving me nutty !! I am suspecting a gearbox bearing possibly?

My wife's old smoker 1.9 gttdi asz 6 speed had this issue when slowing down at traffic lights etc it made all sorts of noises! I drained the gbox oil to find gold and silver shavings all in the oil! Very common fault with these golf 6 speed boxes fitted a second hand box and was good as gold! Not sure if these Fabia vrs run the box or not? But this is what I've had with the same issues you have had

Hope this helps dude

Gearbox input shaft bearings, fairly common. Could run for many more miles like this.

Expensive repair?

Expensive repair?

Depends, one of the bearings can be fitted with the box in situ, but if the input shaft has too much play, it's a box rebuild or new box/2nd hand rebuilt box.

So between £100 to £800
