Centre Armrest - an alternative

Featured Replies

There's no doubt about it. I am a centre armrest man, but my SE didnt come with one. Having read Chr1staylors very excellent thread (below)

on retrofitting a centre armrest acquired from a broken elegance unfortunately I feared that it was a bit much for me. I have however sourced and fitted an alternative for the less able (and for a third of the price - even if it may only be as third as good).

For your interest anyway I will upload some pics..

Seems a good alternative for a lot less money.  As I always drive with both hands on the steering wheel a central arm rest is of no use to me.  However, my wife, when a passenger, appreciates the adjustable arm-test in our car.

Incidentally, I have always kept two hands on the wheel since an incident many years ago on a dark motorway when I hit some debris that wretched the wheel out of my (one) hand and almost put me into the central barrier, even though I was driving in the nearside lane.

Yeah, seems like a good alternative. Good work.

I got one of these today , literally 10 mins to install , I bartered the bloke down to £30 so not too shabby , looks good and practical much easier than stripping out the centre tunnel.

very neat

Actually I find the Elegance fitted centre armrest a proper useless ill designed contraption.

Not strong enough, not properly adjustable, not far enough forward, AND interferes with the parking brake access.

It is also broken, due to absently mindedly being tugged forward too far.(but not far enough)

Probably due to Sciaticia I use the armrest to relieve weight off my lower spine periodically.

The proper seat side mounted armrest on the Captains chairs in the Galaxy was much better engineered and fit for purpose.

It survived 250,000 hard used miles.

Does anyone know if there is a leather style for this type of arm rest? Not too keen on fabric.
