Fabia VRS - Driver's side squeak

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, posted about this a while ago but i wasn't very specific.

I have a slow, rhythmic squeak that seems to be emating from the driver's side front wheel.

I can hear it - with the window open - when i'm driving at slow speed. The odd thing is though, when i apply the brakes (even gradually) the noise stops.

Can anyone explain what it might be?

repetative? ie every revolution of the wheel?

Maybe brake dust! A good clean could do the trick.

Yes, it could be that, if i do decide to clean the brakes how do i do it and what do i use? I'm utterly hopeless when it comes to technical stuff!

Leave car over weekend without driving, then take it out and use the brakes. That should stop it.

Do you think leaving it for just one day might do the trick? I've only really got sunday of this week when i don't need to use it.

Although i'm sure someone might say i'm mad i bought a can of water dispersant from halfrauds and used the straw thingie to spray it all around the brakepad/caliper area, did the trick for a few thousand miles, brakes were a bit dodgy for about five miles but soon went ok

Thanks for the advice! I've booked it into the dealer for next Wednesday but if they can't stop the squeak i'll try the water dispersant!

Argggg

Are you sure you want to spray a lubricant around the brakes. after all they rely on friction to work.

You may have a stone jammed in between the pad and the disk.

Cheers

Actually, that may be it, the road that i drive down a lot is COVERED in stone chippings at the moment!

I have exactly the same problem and I havent driven on any roads with loose stones! I also hear a screech from the same wheel when I accelerate hard from low revs.

In the end mine was diagnosed with a "stripped" brake pad, it was then replacedd and no probs since!

Thanks Mike, what do you mean by a stripped brake pad? Did it take long for them to find it and sort it out?

Apparantly it was down to a manufactoring defect in the brake pad, through use the pad had got a "bobbly" surface. So the non-flat bits were often in contact with the brake disc hence making the squeek!

It was only a simple matter of the dealer replacing the brake disk, so a quick job.

The only long part was the fault diagnosis in the first place, that took a couple of trips.

Let us know how it goes.....

That would suggest why it is not there first thing (cold parts and disc is cool) but once the heat builds the disc expands causing the lumps on the pad to catch the disc. Mine actually seems to be easing a little so maybe the pad lumps are wearing down??

Perhaps so, but i'm no expert! Hope you get it sorted.
