Ex subaru/mitsu evo owners/quick car owners

There seem to be an awful lot of you that have taken the skoda route (octy and fab).Come clean if you're out there (I know quite a few who swapped)

I am very impressed I must say  wrongly or rightly it was part of my old 'justification for buying skoda' speech (LONG since defunct) "Yes,its what the impreza/evo people are turning to now"

I have the basic gist of why.Fuel,insurance,tuneabilty.Seat,VW and audi all offer similar so I just wondered why so many take this route? Do many scoobynetters go for cupras and the like?

Just a matter of interest thread as I thought Seat were meant to be the sporty image.

Maybe its a rally connection

If the equivalent of the vRS in VW/SEAT were the same price I would have considered it. As it were they were several thousand pounds more.

Fabia vRS = superb build quality, nearly three times the fuel efficiency, somewhat cheaper insurance. Im also liking the understated look right now - actually quite nice not to be eyeballed everywhere you go !

I went from An Impreza STi 3, 290 bhp to an Octy 4x4. Main reason was I was fed up with owning a car whhich whilst quick broke time & time again & was incapable of being used to its full potential every day (also sub 20 mpg +Octane booster made it expensive to run)

Ive had the Octy for 2.5 years (51000 miles) & now have no fear about ringing the ***s out of it every day & nothing breaks, the car is now fairly heavily modded yet still cost less than a new STi would & is arguably quicker.

Im just :D:D:D:D:D & I now have money in the bank !!, Scoob Engines are pricey !!

I had a 300+ hp Volvo T5 - it was luxary, more so than the Scooby and Evo peeps, but it still came with high insurance costs, 5000 mile service intervals, 6000 mile range and front tyres 18-24 mpg etc. I miss it lots and lots and lots, and it took alot to get what i have now, however i didn't feel i was loosing out with the fabia as it seemed as quick as the Volvo when i need it. i.e 2-3 seconds flat out stint. The Volvo will keep going once pinned down, but initially they are te same - coupled with the decent mpg and alleged decent handling i couldn't resist !!!!!

Will get another T5 though some time soon [perhaps when i sell the kids ;)]

I left behind a Bug Eye WRX. Fed up with being noticed all the time, coppers would follow almost waiting to catch you out.

Rising insurance premiums, low MPG, high servicing, high depreciation.

TBH the standard bug eye isn't that impressive to drive. It has awful turbo lag, nothing mid range and requires frequent gear changes to get anything from it.

Mine came down to cost, pure and simple, but unlike Stuart, my UK turbo was 100% reliable and my Fabia wasn't and cost me a fair bit to get into a reliable state!

I probably wouldn't get another Scooby as I've already done that now, but will probably get a silly weekend car and keep the sensible family car for my day to day driving :D

Chris

I had an Impreza P1, which I sold to buy a brand new Fabia vRS. I thought the Fabia was a great car but there was no comparison on performance (and it was a bit too small) so I ended up selling it after only 2 months.

I went back to Scoobys again and bought an STI5 Type R, which I had re-mapped etc. For a while I was happy with my 320bhp and awesome handling, but the real world is starting to hit me again. Not many places you can use the performance, crippling insurance, poor reliability, extortionate service/repair costs, sub 20mpg running.

So it's getting put up for sale in about 2 weeks when it's been re-MOT'd, and i'll be looking for something more sensible. Having had a Furby and not been totally happy with it, i'm more likely to be swayed towards an Octy this time - either a vRS or a TDi. If my sensible head wins the argument then it'll be the TDi. :)

Well I already had a 1.9D Felicia as well as the scoob, the Felicia had been excellent from new, the dealers were great and the running costs were next to nothing.

The Felicia was getting a bit old (Around 7 years) so I bought a 1.9TD Fabia Comfort with Air Con. Didn't get offered enough for the Felicia so didn't part chop it.

So back to the Scoob,

I went from a remapped Impreza to Octavia in early 03 but I kept the 4x4 bit ! then remapped it.

Reasons?

1. The usual running cost reasons - I did work it out fully and it was more frightening than even I expected. At
