Is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Have been toying with the idea of upgrading the drl's in the fogs, the side lights in the main headlamps and also the puddle lights in the wing mirrors to LED.

SuperSkoda have got all 3 sets that they claim don't need coding, plus have a 2 year warranty on them - plus have 20% off till tomorrow night.

Have researched but can't quite workout if their lights really are error message free?

Also how easy is it to change the bulbs in the fogs? Do you remove the front wheels, then unscrew the linings to gain access?

The fog light housings just unclip from the front of the car, and then you get access to DRL and fogs from there. The manual gives the best explanation.

I recently found some w5w LEDs for the side lights in the headlamp housing that are a good match for the xenons as they are white-white. If you search eBay for "5730 w5w" then they are about the only bulb on there. £4.99 for a pack of 10, and no error warnings on mine after two weeks.

I want to do the under-mirror bulbs as I have some 5630 w5w bulbs in there at the minute which are a blue-white and look a bit naff, but only have one of these new bulbs left - just waiting for another pack to arrive from the Far East.

Sorry, the eBay search should be "5730 t10".

Could you post picture of these, as there are few different types which come up after the search. Thanks

halfords have an LED bulb which works in these - they do two types, exactly the same bulb, just one is twice the price of the other and in a nicer box with the word "professional" in it

big thing is to be VERY careful removing the mirror glass - its 200 odd euro a side if you break them

And I use these bulbs for the interior w5w t10 map reading lights.  Nice warm white light, but feels like almost twice lumens vs. standard filament bulbs.

Nah, tis more like £15 for replacement mirror glass on ebay with the heating element.  €200 is probably for the auto-dimming side mirrors, which are quite scarce.

How do these look in the side lights, as they emit light only to the sides? At the moment I have ones which emit light from the front as well as sides, but are litlle blueish. Thats why I would like to change them to something which matches xenons better.

@jakeblade - yep - sorry - you are correct - it is the autodimming one I was referring to

They look ok, as the light bounces off the sidelight reflector, so has broadly the same effect as an incandescent bulb. I was previously trialling a CREE forward firing bulb that i had been sent in error when buying my DRL LEDs. Whilst it was a good match in colour, when used as a parking light it just looked like a cycle light at the side of the road - which I thought would be confusing for other drivers.

Thanks jakeblade. I'll give these a go. Hopefully they will be a better match.

Ok, one step further - has anyone seen or got these fog lights with integrated DRLs?

Or what about these headlights?

Do the LEDs fade like the normal bulbs? For example when you unlock it they all light up gently?

The idea of LEDs is to give to full light immediately when you switch them.  Can't imagine them lighting up gently.  Just look at LED headlights (and xenons for that matter) - you get instant light when switched on.

Yeah, but its the "event" as you unlock it when it all glows up softly. Then when you use them their instant. Similar to how the Audi LEDs gently diffuse when using the indicators which then glow instant. If that makes any sense.

If you're talking about interior lighting with LEDs, mine fade in and out.  Also true for the LEDs I currently have in the side mirrors.

Yeah that's what im on about!:)
