I am a newbie on here, so go easy!

 

Right, I know this is probably sacrilage on a Skoda forum, but I wonder if anyone can tell me if all 9N VW Polo's were made with ABS?

 

The reason I am asking this is because I need to replace both front wheel hub and bearing assy's. I am struggling to find any Fabia's in breakers yards around me, so I am trying to see if I can use Polo 9N units as an alternative.

If when you first switch on,  your dash panel should light an ABS panel light ?? no light = no ABS

Well perhaps a horse of a different colour, but, here goes.

I bought a one new new bearing hub assembly off E-Bay around the £34.00 mark, could have got it cheaper, but I got cold feet with one sellers reply..

Getting garage labour to fit assembly into housing ( as you need a very heavy press tool ) for about £80.00.

Make sure if you have ABS, that you get the bearing hub assembly with the magnetic ring fitted type..

 

Worth mentioning one Skoda bearing hub assembly £92.00 mark..

Genuine Skoda £94 posted from Rainworth, you can get two for under £40 if you go non genuine with two year warranty, personally go with a known brand for circa £49. I'd not buy used, it's going to cost as much as a new 3rd party bearing and could be just as bad in a few thousand miles. As for the labour to do it then it's never been more than an hour when I've had one done.

Thanks for your responses. To confirm, I know my car has ABS. Basically I need to replace both entire hub assys and carriers. This includes the caliper mounting bracket. This is beacuse the caliper mounting holes have cross threaded in the mounting bracket.

 

The question I was really asking was, do Polo 9N's all have ABS or were some produced without ABS? Then I can decide whether I can take the hub assy off a Polo instead of a Fabia. As I'm sure most of you are aware, Fabia's are much rarer to find in scrapyards than Polo's!
