Octavia 1.4 dsg mpg

Featured Replies

Hi all am considering a 1.4 dsg mk3 and wondered about owners views and how you've found the mpg compared to the brochure figures?

From what I read its generally very good if driven with some restraint. Early/mid 50's is possible on a run but economy will get hurt if you have a keen right foot.... likely to dip into the low/mid 30's if really hard on it; not so much a problem with the 150 TDi that'll frankly better 40mpg no matter how you drive it, particularly so on a run.

For commuting which is mainly stop/start commuting I haven't managed better than 35.On longer runs 40 and better is achievable, but it is much more sensitive to driving style than a diesel.

Hmmm... keen right foot, dunno what you mean

If you're doing local tripping then try using the Eco mode, it should aid economy. I've found that it seems to help my economy a little using that combination.

Only just over 600 miles on mine but it is averaging just over 40mpg (both calculated and on the trip computer), mostly on short journies.

On the one longer motorway journey I've made so far it gave 53mpg over 60 miles spent mostly at 60-70mph.

Looks like I need to change my figures. Over the past day commuting we have averaged over 50 mpg, this involved a few longer runs than normal but still 60 miles around the city. A change since the last tank has been running 98 RON fuel and upping the tyre pressure to 38psi.

Going on a run and taking it very easy on a mixture of roads I managed 61 mpg, normal running is 40mpg but as I have only just done 2000 miles I have not needed to rush anywhere yet so I expect later fuel figures to be worse.

Well if I can get around the 40 mpg mark on a 2.0 TSi vRS DSG doing 70-80 in places then you should be able to improve on that with a 1.4 as it's not such a performance biased engine as the vRS.

Yep, I recently got about 44 mpg (car's computer) on a 25 mile trip with my trailer attached, I didn't enjoy it though which is probably why my Fuelly mpg shows a little more shall we say, fun is occasionally had.

The best I've had so far was an indicated 55mpg (typically over-reads by ~2.2mpg) over a 40 mile A-road journey driving sensibly, ie not like a granny but not like my usual lunatic self.

I've recently returned an indicated 44mpg on a 280 mile round trip motorway journey with some proper quickness at times.

The car has just under 6k on the clock and so far I've been able to meet and beat the economy I used to get in my S-Max 2.0 TDCi, although to be fair it was a much heavier car, same power output but more torque and the economy for a diesel was very poor, mainly down to the way I drove it.
