BMW 116d M Sport

Featured Replies

I have recently changed my job and as a result I had to hand back the Yeti which was really difficult to do.

My new job comes with a car also and here it is, a BMW 116d M Sport, I thought it was going to be a poor car, gutless diesel and too small after the Yeti.

I was pleasantly surprised with the spritely performance, fantastic equipment level and what could be one of the best seats I have ever sat in. I travelled to work and back all of last week, this was 600 miles at motorway speeds, I also did a bit of running about adding up to about 50 miles maybe, this was done with on tank of diesel which cost £60 to fill up making the 116d very frugal too.

Down sides, no xenon headlights and this is bad after having them before, also it has 18" wheels so the ride is quite hard for the motorway but excellent for B road blasting..

Here it is, I have it until October 2015.

good luck getting out of that drive when the snow comes :giggle:

What's the rear passenger space like? Last time I was in one (2004) they were quite cramped in the back.

Getting off the drive won't be the problem...

How OCD are you about keeping the car clean?

Drive has never been an issue except for a Passat that the handbrake let go and hit the house! As for keeping it clean my Yeti was white so not too bad guys.

See you around autocorrect not that I get to Haydock much except for Costco

I think Trundlenut might be alluding to getting out at junctions :D Tbh, I never had a problem when I had my BMW 123D, a great little car, although not as economical as you might think it should be (

I was thinking about the chance of parking it in the house when its icy.

I am finding the steering extremely light on the BMW, I know this can be altered on VAG cars with VCDS, is this possible on the BMW and what software or cable would be needed?

Yes i am pretty sure it is, i will report back tomorrow. if so i will be able to get it done for you

Funny that, I find the Mrs' 116i to have weirdly heavy steering.

I think it is a variable thing, it is quite light when manoeuvring but heavier at speed, compared to the yeti it is quite sensitive when on the motorway.

I am liking the handling of this car, very well balanced and is a dream to drive on a B road, it turns in really well and for a 116 is quite lively too.

Is this the 110/120 bhp engine Jamie? We have quite a few in our fleet, not M Sport spec mainly SE.

Runflats or standard?

It is a 120 bhp and runs Bridgestone run flats.

Looks nice James. Could have been a lot worse in the company car lottery! :D

It is a decent car, I was a bit reluctant to take it as it is a 116d, in fairness it drives well and I have received my new tax coding and I am taking home £300 a month more than when I had the Yeti!  This I like

Yeah they're efficient you've got to give them that.

The 116d badge is a bit deceptive these days I think as is the 118d really, with 140-odd...

If they are the same as the E81/2/7 then they are all 2.0 in various guises.

I know what you mean about the handling

BMW, I haven't been a fan of them in the past but lately I am surrounded by them, I have the 1, my employer has an X5 M50 and Yesterday I was chauffeured around Kielder by one of our suppliers at the Pirelli international Rally in a 640d gran coupe.

It has the 8 speed ZF auto box, acres of leather and performance that is quite frankly incredible, this car has some serious power and it delivers it in huge waves with seamless gear changes and an really good noise too considering it is diesel. Stopping also happens very efficiently in an almost overwhelming manner, the feeling of your body being held by the seat belt and your face wanting to continue forwards.

I am not in the market to buy a 640d but after yesterday I will certainly be asking for a drive next time rather than being a passenger.
