Oct. Scout 2008 - AUX issue

Featured Replies

Hey,

Bought a Skoda Octavia Scout 2008 a couple of days ago, and noticed the AUX input in the center armrest. I read the manual and it told me to activate AUX via the settings of the stereo, but I can't find any settings saying anything about the AUX input. It also told me to click the "CD" button multiple times to activate AUX, this did not work either.

Are any of you guys able to help me out? That would be sweet.

Thank you,

saX.

I think it can be turned on and off from the menu in the stereo.

Thanks,

Yeah that's what the stereo manual told me, too. But I have not been able to find the setting in the menu, there are tonnes of settings, but none of them mention anything about the AUX input.

if its like mine its under the set up button then media, then 'enable aux in'. Why its an option is beyond me who is going to need to switch it off?

I just read through the whole manual, and it appears to me that the manual is displaying a different radio, although the radio in my car is supposed to be the original one. It has the same buttons etc. but not the same options; my radio is lacking the majority of the settings the manual shows - including the AUX setting. Have you got a Scout 2008 Paddypaws?

Does the radio have anything written on it?

Its a 2013 but still a mark II. Is the stereo a Bolero?

A 2008 Scout will have a "Stream MP3" headunit. This will be written on the facia as pictured below.

Older Octavia's had the "Stream" headunit without the "MP3" - these units aren't AUX-in compatible and therefore the cars don't have the AUX connector in the armrest.

Does your stereo have Stream MP3 written on it? If so pressing the CD button cycles through radio, single slot CD, boot mounted CD changer and AUX-in.

If not then it is possible someone has refitted an older headunit at some point in the cars life.

It has "Dance" written on top, otherwise it looks very similar.

The 'Dance' was never fitted to the MkII Octavia Scout, at least here in the UK. Someone for some reason has swapped the headunit.

The Dance is not AUX-in compatible which is why you can't select this function. If you remove the headunit you'll no doubt find the AUX cable hanging loose with no where to connect.

Where did you buy the car from? On an 08 (2008) I'm guessing that this wasn't from a franchised main dealer as it'll be too old for a main dealer forecourt?

It might be worth speaking with the garage / previous owner so see if they are willing to help.

If not then there are plenty of Stream MP3 headunits available on eBay...

That is a bit weird, seems like a dance was fitted to the Fabia II rather than the Octavia.

The car was bought at an Audi/Volkswagen/Skoda dealership where they sell both new and used cars; needless to say this one was bought used. I will be speaking to the salesman tomorrow and I'll ask him about the headunit and if he knows why it's been swapped out. If he won't come up with a way to sort this out I guess I'll talk to a car stereo company and see if they can't install a Stream MP3 headunit if I bring it to them.

Thank you very much for your help guys,

saX.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it needs 'dealer' programing and an adaptor for mine (similar age although a May 09 build)

What are you referring to here Normcall?

If the car had the original headunit fitted (Stream MP3) then no coding will be required to access the AUX setting via the menu as it's a default selection.

The only adaptor needed would be from the AUX-in in the armrest to the MP3 player / mobile phone etc.

Are you saying that an adaptor can be fitted to the back of the Dance headunit to make it AUX-in compatible?

Your Scout (May 2009) is right on the cross over from pre-facelift to facelift, so it is likely that you have a Bolero (touch screen) headunit.

The car was bought at an Audi/Volkswagen/Skoda dealership where they sell both new and used cars; needless to say this one was bought used. I will be speaking to the salesman tomorrow and I'll ask him about the headunit and if he knows why it's been swapped out.

Dig your heels in then. This is exactly why you pay a premium to buy from a franchised VAG outlet, you can trust the car is as described, is factory standard and has a clean history.

Your purchase is not to standard.

My angle here would be to ask them to fix the AUX-in socket under warranty. The only way they can do this is to replace the headunit with one of the original specification or mess around trying to make the current headunit AUX-in compatible as suggested by Normcall.

Oh, and don't let the salesman pull the wool over your eyes. The Dance was never fitted to the Octavia Scout in the UK. Fact.

i have a skoda octavia 1.4tsi with a bolero mp3 headunit.. i can not locate the aux imput and also i can not activate aux on the HU as it does not come up in settings.. any reason as tl why and where the input is located?

The Aux input is located in the inside of the Jumbo Box, which is Skoda speak for the storage compartment inside/below the armrest. I'm not aware of anywhere else the Aux is fitted if you don't have the Jumbo Box.

The Bolero displays buttons for some functionality that were an optional extra; Bluetooth calling, Aux input et al.

If you don't have factory fitted Bluetooth, pressing the Phone button mutes whatever you are listening to on the Bolero.

I retrofitted Aux to mine, bought an aux and cable from ebay for £6 IIRC. You will need to pop the CD changer plug out of the Quad lock and add the Aux one.

You will need to take the handbrake console out to cut a hole for the Aux to fit or you could fit it elsewhere/closer I guess.
