Extended Warranty/Cargarantie question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've purchased a MkII vRS a few months back and it still has the Extended warranty provided by CarGarantie. After a few months of use, I've noticed the dreaded high oil consumption when in city use - at this moment clocking around 1.25l/1000km.

So a few questions - have any of you gone through a warranty claim through the extended warranty? From what I can see from the documentation, I need to report to them before any warranty work commences (or some services can do it for me) but then it should be the same as normal warranty work?

Also, they claim that they work internationally - I bought the car and warranty in Czech Rep, but staying Spain for at least next 6 months, which would make it quite an expensive trip for a warranty repair.

Thanks!

Sorry Zard - I think you're probably better trying a mainland European forum - the vast majority on here are UK based and it's a different extended warranty provider (CarPlan - I think!). I don't even recall any members on here having to have any work done under the extended warranty. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Th3grinch can maybe tell you about a car out of the original warranty and the extended warranty company saying s k o d a know there is an existing fault. S k o d a can not hide because they know there are faulty ones and just wait for owners to get around to having them dealt with.

I'm confused.com - if a car has been running fine, then develops a fault, how can the warranty company (not sure if this is the Skoda-approved warranty or not) claim it's an existing fault? Apologies, I normally give all oil usage threads a miss so I'm not up on this.

They shouldn't but th3 g r I n c h encountered the issue. Skpda rolled over, they have to.they don't want to go to Cory. One action against them and an engineer's report could go public.

Do not want to go to court

Thanks George.

Thanks for all the replies - headed to the service on Monday so quite curious what they say! And re. the extended warranty - this one is provided through the seller of the car (as this is a second-hand car) but it's the same coverage&company that provides service for the official Skoda one (in Czech Rep/parts of EU). Will keep you updated!

And re. the fault - I think the consumption was right on/below the limit for the previous owner so he did not bother but I am doing almost exclusively city driving and previously it was used for medium journeys.. that is my theory as it is beyond me that anyone would ignore the issue for 60k km without fixing it (and, also, when I drove the car for long journeys and motorways the oil consumption seemed ok too).

Hope you get it sorted, Zard.

Got a quick update - they told me it was a known issue for 2010 and 2011 vRSes and they will do the weight test for oil and if it confirms the consumption (fingers crossed ), they will replace the engine.

Sorry didnt know I was called on for this post. My findings were as follows;

Bought car second hand with 37, 000. No known issues logged with Skoda. Noticed it was using oil so got it booked in for a consumption test. Had a right bad ol time trying to get them to pay fpr it and not have to do it myself. Failed the test and had a breather pipe fitted no problem. Still no better on oil use so had anothet consumption test done in which I used 1.52 litres every 1000km. Then the fun began. Extended warranty company refused point blank to pay for engine. So did skoda. I got a bill for £7200 for parts and labour. Service manager at skoda (who it transpires has won service manager award 3years running and is going abroaf to represent skoda) dealt with it all, bouncing back and forth between me, warranty and skoda. Eventually having skoda pay 100% of parts and 70% of labour. Leaving me with £342 bill. 2 days later the service manager had managed to basically guilt trip the extended warranty company to pay the remaining 30% meaning I didnt put my hand in my pocket. I had a new engine 4days later. Now done 600miles without a drop used (yet).

Moral of the story, dont accept anything unless you are happy with it. Dont expect the warranty company to be ANYTHING like the skoda one. (Wouldnt even replace badges with whiteworm or a leaking pair of shocks)

And above all, GOOD LUCK

Interested to see if they deal with your case differently. For example I believe skoda caved in once they were told I was on here and knew exactly what had been happening to other people and that a lot of people knew there was a problem even if they did their best to keep it from the media. (I said virtually the same to a manager at call centre and 2hours later the work had been paid for,, strange that)

Wow, that does sound like a pretty painful process! Let's see.. I think they are doing the test now plus the protocol is to try the pipe and replace the engine if that does not work out. The technician told me straight after typing the engine ID into their system that there is a note to those 2010-11 engines that this may be happening and it is a known issue - which is a different story to what I hear hear on the forums, that the techs are not even admitting that something is wrong. So let's see what happens, will be picking the car up on Wed ...

Are you doing the mileage for the test? Make sure you do so as to get a good reading. Also make sure they tell you what the protocol is regarding your oil light coming on out of hours. (It happened to me but I had not a clue how to deal with it)

I think that is the idea - I will pick up the car on Wed and as I understand it it will have breather pipe fitted (or that is what I get from the translation), I will then do 2000km or until the light comes on, then I need to go to the shop and do another weighting. I think the technician is thinking that new engine may be in order, however, he has a protocol to follow before the powers that be will give a green light for such expensive repair.

And very similar mileage on mine - mine is on 41k miles... did your first 37k go without trouble for the first owner?

Also, I said right of the bat that I did my research and I know this is not an isolated issue - which the tech confirmed after he did his research 30m later.

Is it the Car Care Plan warranty that you buy from a Skoda dealer and is packaged as 'Skoda approved'?
