It's the modern day x!

I've always been of the opinion that rather than the MINI (should that be BMW 0 Series?), in actual fact the proper spiritual successor to the Mini is the Mk1 Ford KA. Brilliantly packaged, cheap, small but big on the inside, terrific fun with a properly sorted chassis and so on and so forth. I'd also put forward the 90's/00's era Micra. Nothing like as good, but certainly there's more than a hint of modern Mini in the looks.

Similarly it's been suggested to me at work that my Octy is the modern day Sierra. The everyman car, with a hint of the squarish yet purposeful looks, space for a whole family and a full size wardrobe and great performance when needed (shame it's not RWD)...

So how's this then - spiritual successors to the Imp? The Minor? The Cortina? The Capri? And anything else :) I'm not interested in brand engineered modern throwbacks like the Beetle and the Fiat 500, but what cars really hold the spirit of the classics?

Don't thin anything really captures the spirit of the old cars - in those days you had to push the cars to get the best of them (and know how to handle them).

Capri being a prime example - it was so easy to get one of them out of shape by judicious use of the loud pedal that you had to be a real driver to keep it pointed the way you wanted to go. Modern day cars have so many systems to protect you that you hardly get the same feeling of being truly connected with them.

Btw I think of the Mini as the BMW 1/2 series :giggle:
