Sunroofs.

Featured Replies

My partner has frequently said she misses having a sunroof on the cars we own.

Now does anyone consider a sunroof a good option being in mind that on Skoda`s and VWs they cost about £800.....?

Best option I specced on my Fabia was the front fogs which were £125. Better value in my opinion.

Having had cars with and without, I prefer those with sunroof. Even if you never open it, the extra light they let in helps a lot to brighten up the interior.

I always have the sunroof of the Audi wide open in the summer as long as its not raining and then its tilted upwards instead.

My old car came with a factory fit manual sunroof and I think it's fantastic, even better now that I've made it electric, I use it every time.

Always liked sunroofs

very useful for checking whether stuff is attached to your roofbars ;)

£800?!?! A factory fitted sunroof is under £400 from what I recall on a Fabia, not much more for the bigger cars and only the far bigger electric panoramic sunroofs are £800 and over and one of those would be my first option ticked. :) I simply won't buy a car without one now as it makes such a difference to the interior ambiance. Having it right back when on holiday is also invaluable IMO. :)

Got factory fitted sunroof on the old Fabia VRS when car was new £400 back in 2005..

The few sunny days we have I like to open sunroof when driving along, without any windows open or air conditioning on.

Salesman did say why have a sunroof when air conditioning is fitted.?

Well for starters if your parked up somewhere you don't want the engine running for the air conditioning !!!

Not sure I would pay the additional £800 @ order point but then I only buy very nearly new with all the extras at a sensible price but I do love my sunroof.

Yesterday was classic, front windows down slightly within wind deflectors and tilt the sunroof...much improved natural ventilation without lots of noise or wind to the extreme.

Oh, mine had a factory electric roof already on when I bought it :)

Yes I have a/c but only use that when very warm, on days like yesterday part sunny/cloudy not too warm the sunroof does the trick!

I love sub roofs but so many cars these days don't have them.

I personally would not spec one.

I can think of other things I would rather spec if cost is an issue, front fog lights would not be on the list though, I do 100K + miles per year and in 28 years of driving I can count on one hand the times that I have needed to used front fog lights.

Actually that is not true... now they are used for cornering lights they do get used.... so I have finally found a use for them.

Panoramic sunroof was a £550 option I spec'd on mine.

Love it  :sun:

My girlfriend recently bought a Renault Megane, sunroof in that is great, we've only been out a couple of times in it, really nice to have it open!

A sunroof makes a car. I can't stand climate or air-con, if the weather is hot let the warmth in! The sunroof on the Golf is huge, when we went camping for Easter a couple of years ago we travelled in it on a boiling hot day. Windows down, roof open and 60 all the way to Woolacombe. Apart from a slightly sunburnt head it was great.

i leave the climate control on auto roof open or closed, so the aircon in my audi is always running.

I had a ford sierra with one back in the day.

Great if you are a smoker. (At the time I was)

Don't miss 'em. Just something to leak imho.

Depends on the car. My sister's MINI has a full panoramic one, and it's great. A friend's FIAT 500 has a panoramic one too (doesn't open?!), but I hit my head on the roof, since it's lower to house the runners etc.

If I could have one without loosing headroom, I'd love one. £800 sounds a bit steep, but I guess compared to something pointless like leather seats, it's well worth it!

I dislike glass sun roofs, I'm a slap head so I always have the inner screen shut, but I do like to open a roof in summer and usually always have the full length fabric roof on my Rover open. I use sun cream on my old skull, or wear a straw hat. I look a prize prat in a hat driving with a closed glass roof. My Roomster glass roof doesn't open and I think it makes as much sense as traction control on a trawler.

If I were to choose, I'd not have a sunroof.  We've had a couple that've leaked, although electrical tape was always a cure in the wet season.

Having said that, the CRX is a transtop, if ever I can get the dang thing working

Gaz

only had 2 cars with sunroofs on the fiat punto the handle fell off a lot lol.... and on the Renault megane it sometimes wouldn't close (electric)

As much as I don't particularly like sunroofs, it's not really fair to compare a couple of cars built by the French and Italians is it?

I wouldn't want to be without a sunroof now. On really hot days air con is better, but I prefer fresh air where possible.

On the Mk3 estate it really transforms the car with the amount of light it lets in too. An expensive option but worth it IMO.

Pretty much all of the 1980s rear engined Skodas had sunroofs so during my first few years of motoring I got used to having one. Subsequently when I bought more modern cars the sunroof had been replaced by climate control. Whilst climate control is effective you can't beat opening the sunroof a crack to get a bit of air flow or indeed all the way to let the sun in. When it came down to ordering my Octavia I therefore decided it was okay to spec the £900 full length panoramic sunroof. Admittedly it is a "luxury" option but you only live once?
