How do I pair phone with the car?

Featured Replies

If I don't have the key in the ignition, I can turn on the radio, hold the right knob and getting into the settings. There I can see the normal settings, along with phone and bluetooth. Both are switched on. If I turn the ignition on, these options quickly disappear. At no point does the car show up on my phones Bluetooth menu.

So my question is, how do I pair my phone with the car? Even though both the phone and Bluetooth options seem to be on, I can't get anything to work. The manual isn't much help, as it just tells me to go to turn on the ignition and go to the phone menu, which has disappeared by that point.

Unfortunately it doesn't show up. I have tried with my G2 and with an iPhone 4. I thought I managed to find it once, but it wouldn't connect. I think I need to connect to the phone from the car, not the other way round.

Turn ignition on, engine may be off. Push in the volume button on the steering wheel, the maxidot will either show info from your phone (if it is already connected) or show it's not connected and give the option to Search (or Connect can't remember). Select this option with the ENTER button on the right stalk (below) and it will start searching for phones. At this point you should have ALREADY switched your phone's Bluetooth to being ON and "Visible to others" (normally BT visibility is on for around 2 minutes) and make sure it is visible to your car. Then, your car will find your phone and in the phone, you will be asked to allow the connection and give a passcode, this is 1234 or 0000, try either there is no problem if you make a mistake the first time. Then the connection will have been established and you'll just be asked to allow the car access to your phonebook which you should grant, plus check the option for "Always grant access" to save your from future questions.

If there is a problem, please describe in detail which phase of the above procedure is different for you.

Thanks for the help, my car however has no button on the wheel, and if I push in the button on the radio it just turns it on.

Ehm, you're sure it has BT capability then? You haven't mentioned if it is a new/used car etc. I would think cars that come with BT phone and multimedia capabilities should have the phone/volume wheel/button at the left of the steering wheel. The pairing is not done from the Radio's button.

Well it has the settings in the radio for Bluetooth and phone, so I would have thought they wouldn't have put these settings there if it wasn't hooked up to anything.

And yep, brand new Skoda fabia SE

Bluetooth doesn't come as standard with the SE unless it was specced as an option.

The module should be under the rear seat if you have Bluetooth fitted.

The radio is generic so will show all the features available whether specced or not.

My Amundsen in my Tech shows DAB but doesn't have DAB enabled.

Sounds like Bluetooth wasn't actually specced on your car then? I hope you didn't spend too many hours trying to get he phone to connect lol! ;-)
