Power steering pump replacement

Featured Replies

There isn't a sensor on the steering rack regardless of ESP or ASR.

The steering angle sensor is built into the slip ring behind the steering wheel.

If replacing the pump care should be taken when bleeding the PAS system. Running the pump dry can damage it so before you start the engine turn the steering lock to lock (you can do this with the wheels off the ground) this will pump the fluid around and expell the air and prime the pump. Also rememeber they system should be filled with green mineral fluid, do NOT use red ATF/PAS fluid.

Cheers, I knew there was a sensor in there somewhere, I nearly bought  a vrs with esp on it, but there were warning lamps galore on the road test so I walked on by. The one I have now has ASR only. I keep looking at a TT rack mod, so that info is very handy.

Replaced the pump today and it's still not right there is an annoying noise still so it must be the rack. I think it must be the valve where the fluid enters does any one know if it is possible to repair the rack while it is still on the car?
