Soaked footwell

Featured Replies

Bummed out about this ;-(

I've got about 1-2cm of water in my rear passenger footwell. All the trim and carpets are bone dry in the surrounding areas. The carpet is damp and going fuzzy due to me not using the car for a while so it's probably happened during heavy rain, which we've had plenty of! Lol the car doesn't have a sunroof,so that's a major pita avoided. I'm not good with interiors so I could really do with as much info as possible before I go ripping door panels off! Are there any guides floating around about door membranes or drain holes???

Cheers

Mark

The most likely cause is the rubber door seal. A quick way confirm this, is to take it for a test drive whilst someone listens for wind noise.

All the door seals look mint! Not even any dust in them! OCD at its best! Lol

And its literally just the floor bit

None of the side carpets show any damp at all ?

Just the bit where the feet go mate! ;-(

Could I pour a bucket of water over the window with the door open and see where the water goes?

When mine did this, it was the grommet next to the pollen filter under the scuttle panel.  I had my own mini swimming pool in the rear passenger footwell.

have you cleaned out behind your wheel arch liners? compost in there can lead to water ingress as per Mbames's post above :)

Seat Leons are notorious for having poor seals between the inner metal door frame and the outer, ie the part behind the door card is poorly sealed to the main door metalwork. I had the same symptoms as you on my leon and had to replace them all. Do mark 1 octys suffer from the same problem?

Well,my water meth line goes through a grommet near the pollen filter!

Would the front carpet not be wet as well though?

It's bone dry everywhere except the rear footwell!

Wheel arch liners were all cleaned out a year ago!

Cars done 6-7k on mainly dry roads since then!

The floor pan slopes towards the rear of the car, plus there is more sound deadening material at the front of the front.  So while the water enters at the front you are only first aware of it in the rear of the car.

As you have fiddled with that grommet, I suggest you check is sealed.  All the water which runs off the passenger side of the windscreen passes over that grommet.  I know from experience as I routed my radar detector cable through it and had a swimming pool (twice - as the sealant failed after a few years).
