Suspension trouble - Top mount alignment?

Featured Replies

Hello All, I bought a 2011 model 3T4 1.8DSG with 19K miles on it recently. The suspension feels very loose with too much body roll and excessive wheel to wheel movement on any axle. Had the suspension checked by a skoda dealer, they found dampers to be ok but front links and lower arm bushes damaged. So got them replaced. But it didn’t make much difference, car feels tighter after a 4 wheel alignment but loosens up after driving for few miles.

While fitting front struts I noticed the top mounts have a pair of arrow marks on the top along one edge. My Mondeo Mk3's front strut mounts too have similar mark and apparently the mount can fit in all three directions but only one direction is correct, otherwise the strut is mounted at an angle causing it to knock. The arrow mark has to be aligned in parallel to the front wing. Could someone tell me if Superb's mounts need to be aligned and in which direction? Also what else should I be checking?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

PS: I installed Bilstein B6 struts with stock spings when bought the car but later reverted to OE struts to troubleshoot the problem.

the arrows on the mount should be pointing to the front and rear of the car if fitted correctly, if they are pointing side to side then they are fitted incorrectly
