Reverse lights stuck on - Haylp!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

New to the forum and wondering if some of you lovely folks can help us.

Sally Skoda, who is a Felicia 1.3 'popular' model, has her reverse lights stuck on.  They used to just get stuck on once we had reversed, then driven forward, but today, despite just going forward from engine on, they are permanently stuck on!

Had to endure lots of embarrasing "hey do you know your reverse lights are stuck on" people shouting and pulling up beside us, until we stopped and just pulled the fuse :P

Now we are home though, we want a more permanent solution.

I have read somewhere that there are a few things we can try at home before resorting to giving a kidney over to a garage to fix her, been quoted £85 to sort her out, considering we only paid £300 for her and her MOT is due in 12 weeks, we are a little reluctant to spend almost 1/3rd of her value when she might just 'go to the garage in the sky' in 3 months.

Any helpful suggestions would be very much appreicated, thank you.

Sally Skoda thanks you too :)

Sally needs a good reverse light switch.

ok, reversing lights are not a legal requirement in the uk, they are not tested as part of the mot test.

it will be the swtich, it's on the front bottom of the gearbox facing downwards and towards the front of the car and it has a 2 pin plug, they get stuck in the 'on' position sometimes, i seem to remember its a 21mm spanner to unscrew it from the gearbox from memory. you will loose a bit of gear oil though so if you are replacing it be quick and get the new one straight in.

a genuine skoda switch from the skoda dealer is approx £12 if i recall

Wow, thank you both very much :)

Sally thanks you too.

You can unplug it till you get a new one tho.. felicia's are easy to fix plenty off room but tom's 1.8t is probably not...
