How to remove A/C Compressor?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to remove the A/C compressor on my Mk1 Octavia 1.9 tdi with little success. I've removed the 2 long bolts which appear to hold it on to the mounting bracket but it's still held tight by something but I can't see what.

Can anybody help?

Its just tight, like the alternator, you just need to lever it out.

In a few rare cases you have to push the bushing back into the pump mounting flange (towards the pulley) with water pump pliers or mole grips

Thanks for reply guys, have already levered and hammered it, guess I'll just have to get more aggressive with it then.

Be careful using too much force - the bracket can break. Put the bolt back in loose so there is a 5mm between the bolt head and flange. Gently tap the bolt head and the bush will be forced away from the bracket.

yup, you do not want to break that bracket..

Managed to get A/C compressor off without breaking anything.

However now I can't get the alternator off either.Lower bolt came straight out but the top bolt is nestled up nicely behind the auxiliary belt tensioner which presumably has to be removed to allow the bolt to be withdrawn?

Never did I think such a simple job would be so awkward & time consuming!!

You must be a trully vandal to brake a braket...I buy many parts from breaking yards and I choose to remove the parts by myself due to idiot mechanics, and often use force ,big levers and never broke anything

Never underestimate some of the apes that work as mechanics :) - they can break anything.

I have had to slice through the bolt/sliding bush between the bush head and the rear flange to get the the a/c compressor off on a couple of occasions. The bush head and bracket were welded together and I had to grind off the remains of the bush head.

yeah I know how break yard mechanics are,I just bought a throttle body and the monkey broke both clips from the plug
