Well my VAG COM cable arrived from China. I ran the 3112 version of the software and ran the auto-tests. I didn't really know what I was doing so I didn't try anything else. But the auto-test seemed to indicate a problem with the climatronic (yes, I have climatronic). The fault info was this:

Controller: 1U1 907 044 A

Component: CLIMATRONIC C 2.0.0

Coding: 11000

Shop #: WSC 31480

1 Fault Found:

01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71)

37-10 - Faulty - Intermittent

Although as far as I can tell, the climatronic works ok, although I've only had the car a month. But it cools air comes out when it should and warm air comes out when it should.

Has anyone got any ideas about this?

Ok, I've had a poke around the internet and come up with:

which seems to be saying it's a motor that needs replacing. It sounds like a dealer job to do the work. It also seems not worth fixing.

I knew this would happen and I said didn't I? I knew that as soon as I plugged in VAG COM and ran the diagnostics that I'd find out stuff that I didn't need to know and would only end up nagging at me - 'fix me, fix me'.

Post this in Ask a Tech, Ross has made a few posts about re-calibrating the motors.
