A happy new PC Story

Featured Replies

I thought I would give a big thumbs up to Phase 1 computers in Urmston (Manchester) and let anyone know if they want a system building and are not quite confident enough to do it themselves (or cant be bothered :D) they are tops.

In all farness I didn't exactly push the boat out, but the service is excellent.

I simply wanted a base computer with Windows 7 on it and after a quick chat we agreed on their standard base system. OK, it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, but I only need it for business, so it's more than sufficient. But the best bit was, there was no bloatware and having asked them if I needed to download Windows Live Mail for windows 7 (I had a feeling I had to do it on my other pooters) the guys had even installed it for me. It's only a little thing, but it showed they listened to my needs and 'over delivered' on my order. Also all the software had been updated so everything was ready to go straight out of the box.

I also discussed a more powerful Gen IV i7 with 16gb of RAM, options on HDD/SSD biggish GFX and quiet cases and they just keep saying "yep no problem, have thought about this product etc" but the price doesn't suddenly spiral out of control. Thank the Lord for Geeks :)

I'm sure the many IT guys on here will think, what's the big deal, but I have had such second rate experiences form PC World, it was a lovely change. Anyhoo, if anyone wants a new pooter, they are great guys to do business with and they include a 3 year warranty on their stuff too :) Took 2 days from chatting to them, to them building it

Glad you got what you wanted at a reasonable price.

I usually by all my computers online as they are cheaper - but in the case of my laptop - I went to PC World as it was local and if I had any issues I could get it sorted in minutes not weeks.

As luck would have it - the computer I got crashed out numerous times in standard use, so they changed it for the same model.. After a few hours use, it was woefully underpowered, so I went back and they agreed to upgrade it as long as I paid the difference.

Long shot of it is, I have a top spec laptop for a "reasonable price"(it was just over £800) and it works.  Any issues within the warranty period and it goes back down the road.

The trouble I have with PC world (and I have bought around 7 or 8 pooters from them) is they are generally clueless. I recently bought a Logitech keyboard and mouse and just wanted to check that I could use the unified plug in for both (the box on the keyboard want very clear in this regard). I was told by the sales assistant that you couldn't add more than one device to each mini dongle. He even checked with a colleague. He seemed suspired when I said you can have up to 6 devices on a dongle.

I had been dealing in the last couple of years with a guy in PC Business, but unfortunately he knew a bit too much about computers and has now left the business section and joined the Tech Guys :( The new woman who has taken his job is totally clueless and I suspect she will never be able to grasp any of the technical side of PCs. I consider myself to be pretty clueless with computers, but I find I know more than the majority of the people who work there about the general technical aspects of PCs. I find that a bit worrying as I seriously don't know much about PCs

Glad your new pooter is built and 'ready for action' Lady Elanore

PC World are good if you're just after peripherals or you know what you want.....................

I wondered if Weebl would turn up. Dont forget to post the rest of the ****y Werld" series.

But I got to enjoy a couple of hours of Weebl stuff on my new happy pooter :) Double win :) :)

A few years ago our residents association got a grant for new computers, and we found Aria as a good place to go . Must admit I was impressed at the quality and price . These days I'd look at sourcing bits from both Aria and Novatech. But I'd never get a HDD delivered from on line ,as I've had too many problems. I buy them locally at Eclipse in Coventry. No couriers to gravity test them. Not so long ago, my son and I sourced parts for a semi decent browsing and GP computer .We chose Novatech bundle, and my son ,who put it together was impressed. My present PC is mostly Maplin B grade parts. Windows experience index on most items is 5.9/6 ,with only graphics( on MB) dropping the system. As i don't worry about gaming or Aero graphics, I'm not bothered.

Maplin B grade is usually pretty good. Returns from people who just don't have a clue mainly!
