Are all bump stops the same?

Featured Replies

Stealer told me both my rear ones have perished today, so no worries changing them myself in the next few weeks instead of the £276.24 they quoted me (!!), but just wondering if I should just pay the £23.20 they quoted for the pair (K3C0511359) or look elsewhere, and if so are they all the same (thinking about longevity really) as they're on ebay for £12 but have no idea what quality they'd be?!

Keep reading OEM should only be £7 odd on here, but obviously not what the stealer told me.

Opinions?

Just seen you can get powerflex ones for a bit more than the OEM price. Any advantages to those??

Standard chassis bump stops are 133mm in length and the sport suspension ones 118mm. Mine on my Octavia Sport are oval (1k0511353F) and cost me £32 including delivery for 2! I wouldn't normally pay that for foam rubber anything but as my car is having a Bilstein B12 kit fitted this Wednesday I desperately needed them for the rear.

What difference does the size make, is it purely to do with the length of the spring/strut that it's sitting with, and that's it?

Smaller bump stops with lowered suspension allow for a consistency in travel, i.e. less chance of bottoming out and damaging metal parts.

Yeah, so what you're driving at is it's just important to get the right length for your particular suspension, correct?

What I was talking about is if there's any difference in getting expensive ones over a cheaper brand in terms of quality, longevity, reliability, etc. or is it simply they're all gonna be the same standard regardless of make or price, might as well just buy a cheap pair and stick 'em in.

If your replacing them yourself i'd look at it this way: The cheap ones only have to last just over half as long as the expensive dealer ones (price/cost wise). Anything after that and all your losing is the time it takes to change an extra set.

But that's just my opinion (a tight yorkshireman)
