How To: Install a coilpack loom / cable guide

Featured Replies

This is a simple job and looks great

Thanks to Rob and his great website gave me this idea some time back  is to fit a coil pack cable guide from a later VW.Golf mk5 gti

Part Number is 06F 971 824 C

And at around £8 a great price.

As I painted my Cam cover Black wrinkle  the old Audi TT heat was looking out of place.

Before I started

The part i am fitting is in 2 halves and clips together over the coil pack loom

I cut off the little lugs that hold the guide down as not needed and in the wrong place

Original loom in place needs to be lifted off the cam cover and the plastic cable runner removed. Also undo the earth bolt to cam cover

this is when i noticed one of my coil pack wires had exposed wires.

This is common due to the heat of engine making insulation brittle. I repaired  no.1 coil few years back.

I lifted up  coil pack wiring to the gearbox side and then fitted the new cable guide over it. This is a little tricky as you have to reform the wires into the new guide, not impossible just bare with it.

finished job
