Engine cover foam disintegrating rapidly into dust...

Featured Replies

My old 2005 Fabia VRS engine cover under-foam is disintegrating and slowly covering whole engine bay with green dust particles.

Would you buy a new cover with some fresh foam attached/ or, rip-off what's left of the old foam and replace with new.

The replacement foam would need to be fairly heat resistant as very soon, it too would turn to dust..

Your constructive views very much appreciated.

Most people seem to rip it off - same on the Octy Mk1 TDI.

My engine cover in the van did this, they only reduce the tapping

sound of the diesel engine a bit, I lobbed mine in the bin.

Look for a second hand one ;)

I hear Bossfox has a few fabias he is breaking ;)

Maybe a PM his way?

I took the cover off on my old Octavia seemed to make no difference to the engine noise.

I've just had a look at my notes... The sound absorber may be available separately for the ASZ, but IIRC it's about £50.

Many thanks to all members that took the time to give me something to consider.

I liked grr666 as the best remark, I liked his suggestion.. LOL Lob-it-in-the-bin..

The foam on my engine cover started to break up so I removed it before it went through anything vital.

I replaced it with an aftermarket stick on foam, seems to be OK after 2 years.
