Are you looking to work by hand or with a machine?

Handjob mate ( ooo-er )

Always been intrigued by machine polishers but no idea how to use them ( oooo new thread time maybe )

But na mate ive always went with my mits :D

It does say hand or machine ?

Sure thing,

One of the better hand polishes going for achieving true correction is Gtechniq P1.

You might find this is all you need, rather than a set of SSR's from Poorboys.

I don't know the tech of the abrasives in SSR but I would always have concerns about using a heavy polishing compound by hand as most are using diminishing abrasives which start aggressive and then become more refined when they are worked.  Problem being that by hand it is really hard to break down the polish to it's more refined stage, this means all your polishing is with the larger aggressive particles often resulting in Holograms.

True correction by hand is really hard work and that is why a compromise solution like a Lime Prime, Need for Speed, Autofinesse Tripple, Autobrite Cherry Glaze or Autoglym Super Resin Polish is a good option because they will offer light correction at no risk and mask any defects that you might struggle to remove by hand.  Maybe a good bet would be to try a different all in one polish.  Tripple and Cherry Glaze would get my vote if you are applying a wax.  Maybe Prima Amigo if you want to apply a sealant after.

+1 for Gtechniq P1 - i'm a big fan; either hand or machine polishing - great stuff.

Although - this weekends trial is some Britemax Black Max with the DA

Amazing how much more some of these products give on a DA, although I think P1 is a tad dusty on a machine.

Good luck with the trial, let us know how it goes.

Whats holograms ?

The ssr 2.5 is like a inbetween what would that be like

Its say more polish than compound and more compound than polish lol

How easy is machine polishing etc ?

Oh Yes - i would agree; after doing SWMBO's car on Monday evening - the P1 dust was a pain;

but it did shift the main marks and swirls i was focusing on.

Hence why, after some reading and research..... the Britemax was ordered to continue swirl removal and add depth.

In order to speed things along - the DA will be used from start to finish.... sponsored by Britemax:-

- Black Max glaze

- Extreme Elements sealant

- Max Shine wax

... hoping my order arrives today!

Following a few simple rules like, always starting with the least aggressive pad and polish first, work small areas at a time, etc,  it's really quite easy to get into with a DA.

I genuinely believe most people would be over the moon with the results they could get from a DA (Dual Action) Polisher, 1 * White Hexlogic Pad and a good all in one like Auto Finesse Tripple.  Single step correction/enhancement then a wax of your choosing.  For a daily driver I think this would be my recommendation.

Where did the other responses go?

Never mind, I looked at the wrong thread

  • 2 weeks later...

The Farecla G3 polish and hand pads available at Halfords is pretty good and worth trying

Menzerna polishes work well for me with a da
