Prospective new owner

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Popped over from SCN, hoping to shift my Ibiza FR TDI in favour of a FL VRS, manual or DSG. Just after a bit of info on what to look out for, potential problems, remapping info, etc etc?

Many thanks in advance.

Diesel or petrol?

Ah missed that bit! Would be a diesel.

Well I own a manual diesel.

It's probably the best car I've owned, relatively quick, can be remapped easily, spec'd up well for a bargain car, I doubt you'll regret it. If I had my way again I'd get a DSG, but I think in the long run that a manual would be better.

Oh and they do about 50mpg

I used to own a DSG A3 PD140, awesome gearbox! A DSG though is around the same price as a manual that's about 12-18 months newer which is annoying.

Everyone loves the control of a manual don't they! I know what I'd do.

Leaning towards a manual I think

DSG certainly is good having got one and owned it for a year I see no reason to ever own another manual. In fact I can't see myself ever going back.

I've done exactly the same mate, altho come from my cupra ibiza petrol rather than the derv. Now have a FL manual diesel octavia vRS and love it - you'll be very happy I think :)!

I guess the choice between maunaul or DSG depends in part on where you do most of your driving.

In built-up areas or where you are likely to experience stop-start driving in traffic, I guess any auto is an advanage.  In rural areas where you may occasionally have traction problems (like most people who choose 4WD) the greater control of a manual could be useful.

It'll be for shopping trips and pootles around town maybe once a week and two 90 mile blasts up and down A roads twice a week for work. That's about it. My DSG A3 had 500 mile motorway blasts every week so that warranted it, however now I think manual would be better.

Me neither, the DSG box is actually better than sliced bread

Anyone got any experience with a remapped manual vs a remapped dsg?
