Smoke & Missing on start up Fabia vRS 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

brought a fabia recently, and started to have a few issues surprise surprises, moments after buying the car, there was a knocking, which i though was the DMF, this has since sorted its self out, and I've put it down to been stood for a while?

now on cold start up, there is a white/grey maybe a blue tint smoke and the engine seems to be missing at the same time, and the cars shaking, had a few fabias, not something I have come across before. The smoke starts off thick, after 8/10 seconds, it becomes less apparent, and comes as puffs, in line with the car missing, leave it running a bit longer, tap on the accelerator, the car will sort its self out, engines smooth, and smoke becomes less and less.

And also sometimes, on stand still, if i rev the car, when dropping from 1500 to 1000 RPM theres a sort of rattle, faint, but can be heard.

Any advise guys?

Sounds like one ir more glow plugs are faulty.

Remove the wiring loom and do a continuity check.

Just done a scan with vcds;

16688 - Cylinder 4

P0304 - 35 - 00 Misfire detected

Best advise from here?

Most likely injector loom faulty, it sits under the rocker cover and gets toasted. Pray it's not the actual injector (£600 each)

The misfire does go away, its only when cold, and if revved a few times, its fine, is there anyway of checking the injectors, and the loom, to actually work out which it is, instead of buying a loom, as he did say it was changed, but it was just taking a mans word for it, which may now be complete BS.  :wall:

I would definitely check the glow plugs, try swapping 4 and 3 over and see if the problem moves cylinders, if not, it's the loom to cylinder 4.
