Megs Quik Detail

Featured Replies

After recently washing, polishing and sealing my car, I can't help but to notice how rough-as-sandpaper the paintwork feels.

This was the first occasion I've had of polishing the car since I bought it, and as a consequence, I bought the following product.

http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/194/Quik-Clay-Starter-Kit/

Now, as much as I like a nice and shiney car, I don't like to spend my entire weekend "detailing" it. Will I need to faff about and wash the car yet again before I go about using the Megs Quik Detail and Clay (as not to scratch the surface with any dust collected on the bodywork over the past 2 days)?

Or will a once over with the pressure washer suffice? Car hasn't been off the drive for 2 days either, for what it's worth.

Regards,

Personally I'd jetwash and shampoo to get the surface as clean as possible before I used the megs clay bar as that will make your clay last longer between each fold and kneed, but as I'm no detailing god that could just be me being over cautious!

Have you considered using tardis tar remover and ironx before you clay too, then a detox shampoo as although they are extra stages both will leave your paint cleaner so will require less claying which is the time consuming part.

many have said how good the farecla clay mit is too and at around £12 from Halfords its reasonably priced and the people who have used it say its a lot quicker than traditional claying and you can use a very soapy shampoo rather than having to use a QD which could be a quicker option for you too.

I guess you're right - I'll give it a once over with the PW before I start claying.

I don't suppose there's any need to dry the car before claying though, is there?

No...leave it wet and lubricate really well

Cheers for that.

Job jobbed. Washed, clayed, machine polished and sealed all in roughly 6-7 hours.

And then came a few spots of rain.  :wall:

Amazing how much crap a piece of expensive Blu-Tac can mop up, eh? Not something I'd like to tackle on a regular basis though, either!

Regards

Glad you managed to get it done

Well done

Very satisfying though isn't it?

Cheers for that.
