Controller updates

Featured Replies

Having connected the Scout to VCDS, I have found I've got the older CECM that precludes cornering lights.

What revision do I need to get this feature back?

Are there any extra features to be gained by getting a much much newer CECM?

Having lost the MFSW in replacing the stereo, what do I need to do to get the buttons to work again with a RNS315?

There doesn't appear to be a battery-drain issue with the CANBus and the RNS315, is there any advantage in updating the CANBus?

Thanks :)

Ah, this is where I hit a problem: RNS315 works fine, and appears to have no battery issue. CANBus says it's there, but VCDS won't talk to it. :(

Ok, so have been looking around a bit at changing the CECM to a later one. My current one is 3C0 937 049 AE. I know I need a later one and have found few on eBay.
Have so far found:
3C0 937 049 AH
3C0 937 049 AJ
3C0 937 049 H
all at fairly reasonable prices.

Any suggestions?

Have got MFSW, MaxiDot and cruise, and now RNS315 too. (Not sure what information is required.)

Mine is the AJ and works with all that you have, other than I have a Columbus RNS510 not the 315...

Handy.

If you currently have a 23 Byte, and i am looking for a highline module should i go for another 23 Byte or can i upgrade to a 30 Byte (also any ideas what the functionality change is between them (i did a little googlefoo for it)

As far as I know, you'll gain at least the ability for cornering lights. I have an AJ in the other car, so I need to sit down and screen shot the 30byte anyway. But I did notice there was data in the extra 7 bytes. (i.e. not just 00's)

It's raining again tomorrow, so it'll be a good day to sit and do some screen shots to compare. :)

Cool, going to go for a highline as i want to retrofit a maxidot when i find a petrol one!

oh and for rain closure etc :)

CANBus wise:

Can I go from 1K0 907 951K    to a 7N0 907 530?  ?

Cool. Thanks Mike :)

I'm not sure you will get the MFSW working with the RNS 315.

Do you have the Audio and Navigation in your maxidot?

I think the RNS 315 only works on the new BAP protocol and won't work with pre-fl stuff (maxidot, MFSW etc).

Hi Phil,

I did have functioning MFSW and audio, when the original Stream MP3 was in there (for all of 3 hours). Have to admit, not overly worried about Audio and Nav on MaxiDot as Miss. Amundsen is fairly spot on with her directions (even if a little jittery at times), and I know what audio I'm listening too ;) ;) Getting the buttons working again would be nice though. Worst case could always try the MFSW in the hatchback with the RCD310, but only on a bored sunny day ;) ;)

Just picked me up one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221433291061?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Have seen some AA and AD's floating around for £100ish, so I grabbed that one, an AF for £50 :)

If nothing else, it will move me on from the "borderline" K revision. :)

Apparently delivery should be on Friday..........

So, next question:

Can I upgrade the CECM from  3C0937049AH  to 3C8937049E/F/R/S/AB   ?

(From midline to highline)

Ok, both units have arrived. I have to admit I didn't think the CANBus gateway was *that* big :o

I got a 3C8937049F CECM from a 2007 Passat.

So, on to fitting......am thinking fit CANbus then CECM, unless anyone has another suggestion.

Whilst I have my hands on the CECM, will probably fit the footwell lighting too :)

OOO, I wasn't aware of that one Mike, thanks :)

Apparently the sunny weather will last for the weekend, so I should get a nice clear run at all this :)

I have to admit, this is one of the mods that's being done more "because I can and I'll have my hands up there" kind of thing. Seeing my feet whilst driving wasn't high on my list of things to do. ;) ;)

I am missing an option at the moment.....I can't find the setting for overseas travel (beam flatten). Should 3C8 fix this?

  • Author

Ah well, not planning to take her outside the UK anyway ;)

Thanks for the info Mike. :) :)

I don't think it's possible on pre-fl even with factory xenons you still have to physically remove the light and flick the switch.

I have mine in 'continental' mode all the time as I can't be bothered taking them out all the time.

Righty ho:

Canbus controller: done. (Note: was driver's side on 2007 Scout)

CECM: Done, coded as per a combination of the on already in the Scout and a couple of pointers from my dad's Elegance. Also activated cornering lights too :)

Footwell lights: coded and installed(ish)...just need to physically mount them now. Currently working in concert with the interior lights, although I'll root around for the "in motion" settings at some point, just to see if it appeals.

Be interested to know if the 3c8 allows the ambient in-motion footwell lighting on a pre FL....

Found the setting in CECM, however it's just a tick box, so I can't where the dim is controlled. Ticking the box did not add a menu to MaxiDot.

For clarity though, MaxiDot does show the "static" dim settings. :)

And the laptop has gone flat now, so play stops until tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a few options in VCDS that don't make sense, in English. One is "CAN data exchange format" Does anyone know what this is?

Yes and I have been able to enable that "doors open" setting with the 3c0 module...

  • Author

Yes. the 3C8 does do it.

There's an option (1 box, bit 7, can't remember which byte at the moment though - will check later) Lights (sides or dip) on = footwell on dim.

Wiring, as usual, was a bit of a b!tch, but is all done now. LEDs installed too! :) :)

Will see if I can grab a pic or three later when it's dark :)

Need a beer now :)

Ok, came home at 1 a.m yesterday. The ambient footwell lighting seems to be at no more than 10% (I'm guessing it's more like 1-3%), so it makes the footwell glow dimly more than the "I can see my feet" effect. Think I'll leave it switched on for the time-being and see how things go. I'm using FIZMO LEDs which throw little blue spots among the white light. Am suspecting this is part of the diffusion effect from being so close to the light-covers. Am not worried, and I think changing the LEDs would do little to change this.

Does anyone have the pin assignments for these 3C8937049F CECM units? Can find them for the later ones, (3 connector) but not the older ones :(

Thanks
