How to troubleshoot unstable Bluetooth connection

Featured Replies

Hello,

Since last week I'm the owner of a new Octavia Estate. I'm very pleased about it, the only problem I have with it is the bluetooth. The car is equipped with an Amundsen so I follow all the bluetooth instructions on that screen. My phone is a Huawei Ascend P1 with Android 4.0.

The initial setup went smoothly, I used the car to detect my phone, then paired them, presto, that worked! I made a phone call, no problems. Then I started to play some music through the bluetooth audio. Every few seconds the sound "falters", it goes quiet for a half a second or so. After 1-2 minutes, the music stops completely. When I try to reconnect, the phone cannot be found again. Restarting the car of phone does not fix this, they cannot be linked again.

The only solution is to remove the phone from the known devices on the car, then reboot the phone, pair again. Then I can connect to the phone again, but the same behavior as described above occurs again.

My previous car was a 2012 VW Golf, never had any troubles with my phone there, both bluetooth phone and audio worked fine.

I'm pretty sure it's a problem related to the combination of the car and my particular phone, but how can I start troubleshooting this?

Thanks!

I have Amundsen and a Sony Xperia S with the latest SW.

Usually i keep my BT switched off on my phone to extend battery life.

My problem is: when I switch on BT after starting the car they find each other but usually I can hear no voice when I call someone.

It seems everything's fine (the phone also shows the connection, etc...) but no voice during a call. No mute, the stereo keeps playing my music from the SD card. The solution is to restart my phone whilst driving and then it works fine.

When I start the car with BT switched on on my phone - no problem.

Sometimes the connection works even if I switch on BT later, but at the first call the phone resets itself after ~30 secs. and asks for the PIN. :(

Thanks for sharing your experience, although it's a bit different than mine. And by the way bluetooth doesn't take up that much battery power, at least not on my phone. Only about 3%.

I already tried a couple of things I found on the internet, mainly to do with having to much contacts, too long call history. Contacts aren't a problem I guess (don't have that much), but I never cleared the call history, so I tried that but it didn't help.

My collegue suggests turning off the bluetooth audio feature, and having only phone, that's better than nothing, so I will try that.

Another topic I found here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/302083-any-nexus-5-amundsen-users-out-there/ suggests turning off WiFi. I remember having some problems with that as well with my VW Golf, so I'll have to try that out as well (I think I already tried that as well, but let's give it another go :)).

Dunno if you two have the option but, my Note has a "visible to paired devices only", seems to work fine with that on, can be a bit funny if I leave the phone in my trousers pocket instead of in that centre consol-y bit.

Yesterday I gave it another try. I removed the known devices from both the car and phone, and paired again. This time an option pops up to select the phone's profile (I have only seen this before once). In stead of choosing audio I select phone this time. Now the phone behaves as expected, automatically connecting each time I start the car, I can make phone calles, check out the contacts list, etc.

But bluetooth audio doesn't seem to work with my combination...

Gerrie, it might be time to put all your music on an SD card, I'm informed by Techies they are quite big enough nowdays to suit all tastes of music.

Bluetooth is not reliable in the best of environments & modern cars are so full if comms getting a clear signal is gonna be tough heck, I gave up at home & had a Sonos system put in. Now get one of those made for the car & you'd be talking.

I used bluetooth audio in my Golf for more than half a year daily, only had problems when my phone was reaching out to a WiFi network, then the sound could stutter.

But you are right, I think the right solution for me is to put a bunch of music on an SD card. I will probably just take out the micro SD card from my phone (my music is on this anyways) and use an adapter to put it in the slot of the car when I need it.
