tuning diesels

Featured Replies

Anyone used one of their boxes? I had a synergy 2 in my old freelander and it made a huge difference to the driveability. I only have 105ps at the most and would like just a little bit more power (I'm not greedy) but often thought that another 10 or 20% wouldn't go amiss... Thoughts please I know this has been covered with regards to the other manufacturers of tuning boxes. Thanks

one of who's boxes?

Sorry could have been clearer (please don't machine gun me  :giggle: ) one of these... http://www.tuning-diesels.co.uk/products/synergy-ronbox-pd/ i had one of his boxes on the freelander and as really impressed - i'm not sure though how the PD engine would take to it or if anyone has any thoughts - the consensus seems to be towards remapping the ECU on here. for the cost i might just try it!

Any reason why you've not thought about a remap?

i like the idea of being able to take it off if i want to i suppose.

I have not used one on a PD engine, however I did have a Tuning Diesel Synergy box on my old Rover 75. It totally transformed the car and certainly seemed to live up to it's claims. The tuning products from tuning diesels are not a resistor in a box but a proper tuning box.

The only thing to note is the box they do for the Rover 75 produces 30% more power, whereas the PD box they produce claims 10%-15% bhp increase which is not quite so good. I guess this is because the Rover 75 had a Common Rail engine which is easier to tune in this way.

Although a remap may be technically a bit better, I would never go down that route....too expensive and you can't e-bay it when you get rid of the car!

I spoke to Darren today at tuning diesels/energy tuning. The PD box won't work on my engine as the ECU is apparently different to pre 2007 cars (which the box is designed for), not sure on that point but he said this straight away, long story short he seemed very credible (as i found in past with the freelander)and advised against any tuning box on my engine and suggested a remap would give better results so will go for that, shame I can't eBay it after I've done with the car though!

Yes they are very honest. When I got rid of my Rover 75 they actually bought back the box for a very respectable price so they could recondition it and resell it. Don't think they do this any more though.

So what the prices for Synergy boxes?
