Starting issue - Advice please

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Can anyone offer any advice, or their experience on this issue im having with my 08 plate, 170 diesel vrs.

A few months ago it developed a fault whereby when the outside temperature was cold, and the car was being started for the first time, it was start but immediatly the engine would die. It would do this 3 times, and only on the third time it would start and run fine.

It has been into skoda, and they originally diagnosed it as an issue with the seals on the fuel injectors.

The injectors had already been replaced under recall a few years ago, but they replaced the seals again, and this hasnt solved the issue. It continued with the same fault.

So back to skoda, and they thought it might be the tandum fuel pump, but this was tested on a machine and found to be fine. The latest thought is that it may be the starter motor at fault.

Now as the outside temperature has warmed up, its not dieing when started, but everytime it doesnt start particulaly smoothly. It wobbles a bit and is a bit rough for a few seconds.

The car drives fine once started, and mpg seems to be normal.

I dont want to get into a situation of just chucking heaps of cash towards skoda to replace various things it may be.

Anyone had a similar issues or experiences?

Thanks in advance.

Has it had a new battery at all?

Wife's A Class often starts and dies when cold due to a run down bat. Give it a good charge and it's ok for the next 3-4 weeks then starts again (due to lots of very short stop start journeys and a 9 year old bat).
