BLT boost pipe replacement

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've noticed a boost leak on the join up from the the intercooler, and it is really annoying me! I know Allard do the kits, but they all seem to be for ASZ engines, is there much difference? Or should i just get a FMIC as I'm looking to have my car remapped in the future?

Harry.

I don't know what to say about the intercooler/boost piping anymore.

To be honest, the further away from the standard system you can get, the better!

Well I've just half an hour arguing with admiral who were adamant that 1) I can't have a FMIC and 2) That changing the boost piping was changing the intercooler... Finally spoke to someone who knew something so I have been cleared to change my boost piping, horray!

So my question now is is the only difference between ASZ and BLT boost piping the ASV and EGR location?

There's nothing really wrong with it (apart from the oil seals weeping!), although it can be a little more "restrictive" at some of the bends, in comparison to a bigger pipework kit. The key benefits are getting rid of heatsoak, if you upgrade to a FMIC system. The side mount is no good for eventful drivers, but I'd also argue that diesels arent designed to be firebreathing monsters. Therefore, although you'll benefit from a bit more cooling with a fmic, it isnt exactly devestatingly effective until you go beyond stage 2 mapping. Fast road cars tend to be absolutley ok with SMIC, its just how far you want your modding to go. The best benefits are really going to felt on a track day, with a beefier clutch and good stoppers.

I'd say there's a lot wrong with it. Pipes should not just blow off after several miles. I bought a new bottom pipe and for nearly a year it was fine, slowly but surely it worked it's way off to a point where it will sometimes leak, just from on and off boost wear.

Thanks, chaps... I'm trying to escape the standard boost pipes and looking to buy the allard kit, however it mentions it fits onto the EGR delete you should already have fitted. As I have a BLT engine does anyone know if it will fit onto the ASV or will I have to remove that too?

Cheers.

The ASV becomes deleted on ASZ when you EGR delete. Pretty sure it's the same with BLT

So will an ASZ EGR delete fit my BLT? I'm guessing loosing the ASV is not too much of an issue?

Also, will I need anything else to get rid of the egr apart from a map and the delete pipe.. I've seen on eBay the coolant pipes, will I need those also?

Cheers
