Miss fire problem?

Featured Replies

Only just got round to registering but have found this forum great for working out previous issues I have had

I had an issue this week when I was coming back from Scotland while performing an overtake on the A65 the car started miss firing and the emissions warning light came on. It sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders, so I turned it off straight away. when I turned it back on a few minuets later it was fine and no there was no warning light either. I continued on my way and it did proceed to misfire for a few seconds before sorting itself out while pulling off from a roundabout, but since I was nearly home I kept going and it was fine the rest off the way.

Its currently running okay but feels a little down on power (does not feel like enough boost is being made), I plugged in the fault code reader today and had the following faults

16684-Random miss fire

16687-miss fire cylinder 3

16688-miss fire cylinder 4

also under the SRS section (not sure if related or another issue)

00532- supply voltage b+: signal too low

Now would I be right in thinking this could be as simple as a coil pack issue? or something else?

Any advice much appreciated

Cheers

Cameron

Have you had the coilpack recall done?

I believe the previous owner had  them replaced yes, although currently cylinders 2 and 3 have bosch stamped coil packs and the other two don't? could this also be related to the breather system because the dump valuve is not going off unless i accelerate and last time it did the the crack case breather had split?

If the recall had been done by Skoda they would all be VW if the ones when the car went in were VW.

What I would do (as I did with mine) is clear the codes, wait for another fault to pop up (note cylinder)  switch the coilpack with another in another cylinder, clear the code and see where the fault then pops up.

Thatll tell you whether its the coilpack or soemtimes it could be down to the loom cracking and breaking up.

New coilpack wiring loom is only about £25!

Also try swapping the injectors around and scanning for codes to see if you can move the misfire around that way!

I did this and it identified an injector as the culprit,so I got them flow tested for £100 at Owens developments!

Problem solved! ;-)
