1.6 CR TDi economy

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of the trip computer economy figures produced by my remapped 105bhp diesel, now running at approximately 130bhp after being used as the development mule by Ben at Shark Performance

These figures were achieved on outward and homeward runs from Lincoln to Skegness via Woodhall Spa, Coningsby and Spilsby, in general driving conditions

I filled the tank first thing, then zeroed the trip odometer, so the round trip was around 94 miles

I totally accept that the computer is optimistic, and that actual consumption figures won't be this good, but I'm still quite happy

So, even allowing a massive(imnsho) 10% optimistic error in the EMU fuel consumption calcs.

Still in the middle 60's

PS

imnsho=in my not so humble opinion

Nice figures.... My daughters 1.6TDi (std no remap) seems to be about 40-45 mpg average... I am seriously concerned about her driving style to not better that.

Crikey, that's what I'm getting with my 105 TSI round the doors.

I can back Brimmas figures up even with my standard 105, whilst my mpg does drop to around 45-50 around town, I know my driving style is a bit lead-footed at times and tbh I accept that. However the other day I did a round trip to somewhere just north of Stoke after brimming the tank - a small blast of about 80 til I hit uttoxeter, careful driving from then on to my destination, then the return was again quite heavy footed. Averaged 57MPG. About 94 miles too, weirdly enough.

I also found out that i tend to be more economical after long runs- both directions after getting off the dual carriageway I was using the turbo band and then shifting up straight away.

Edit- Brimma, what's the engine like at 130bhp? I've seen quite a few offers recently for 130 and a couple for 140 and was wondering how it changes this car.

My monte tech at 13k miles now regularly returns 600-650 mile to a tank of derv. I think it's a 10 gallon tank so that means a genuine 60-65mpg across a tankful. I am pretty pleased with these figures.

"Long runs" are absolutly the key to good fuel economy.

Car is warm/hot, and less "stopping an starting"

Makes a startling difference.

Our month long, averaging 200 mile a day jaunt round the Czech rep and the Balkans averaged  over 60mpg.

Brimmed figs, and Senior Managment kept the fuel reciepts (all paid on a Credit Card)

Motorways and hairpin bend mountain driving included.

regards,

Marcus

Drives very nicely thanks, which it should having Mk1 vRS power levels in a body which probably weighs less.........I haven't regretted it one bit

:)

That's very good brimma ! I get about 65-70 on a 50 mile round trip on this route

Awesome, have you got a graph of that bud out of interest? Sure I didn't see one on the build thread unless i'm mistaken  :wonder:

I keep meaning to come to the East Mids meet and check it out but just checked and i'm rota'd in for this Tuesday. At some point i'll make it!

I can't see your figures Brimma.

Please repost them without your distracting avatar.

Or better yet, post the avatar bigger, I don't care about the numbers... ;-)

On a serious note (no really...), I got new tyres fitted at the weekend - Kumho Ecsta thingies.  Cheapest I could find anywhere, via Black Circles.  I can recommend Black Circles, but not the "recommended" fitting agent (Vauxhall dealer).

the ride seems improved (still hard) and the drop in commuting has meant while economy is hovering around 45mpg, we're driving way less miles per week, so the tank lasts FOREVERRRRRRRR.

With my last car that had the PD lump, I found myself refuelling pretty much once a week on the same day depending on how many miles I did (however I would more likely than not fill up every Sunday before work).

With the CR... I keep finding myself thinking, when did I actually last feed it?! I genuinely can't remember when I last put diesel in. Trip currently says 330 with a smidge under half a tank left.
