Weird idle

Featured Replies

So my 1.6 fsi is great. I love it but have noticed a weird idle problem.

When idle it seems like she very faintly misses a beat but is really faint.

When starting from cold there doesn't seem to be a fast idle. It's not rough like a miss fire but I started her today from cold and she fired on the button but at about 500rpm, quick flick of the pedal and she went up to 750-800. It just seems like there's no choke.

I'd be guessing that on a 2004 car it would be an electrically commanded choke, maybe a cold start idle valve?

Anyone had this?

There's no fault codes stored (only checking on an OBD2 meter not VCDS) and once running she purrs like a kitten. I only run her on Tesco Momentum so it's not fuel related.

I've checked vag sites but people only seem to have issues with misfires below 2000rpm

No one?

1.6 have a DMF?

TFSI has an odd shimmy from it's DMF at quiet idle.

No don't think the 1.6 has a DMF. I have searched and my engine isn't listed as having one.

It sounds like it could be a temperature sensor issue.

Have you had the car scanned at all for any fault codes?

I have but not with VCDS. I scanned with my trusty OBD2 scanner and that's no showing any faults.

Are you able to display engine temperature with your scanner?

If so get the engine up to temperature and see what the reading from the sensor is.

Ok I'll check that. Just went out quickly to the shop and today she fired on the button and revs went to about 1250 then lowered to 1000 as it should. Went into shop maybe 5-10 mins came out and started her and she idled at about 500 until I touched the pedal then the revs raised again?

Could also be a faulty/dirty accelerator pedal then.
