mpg for Skoda Yeti 1.6 greenline elegance

Featured Replies

Hi all. I am new to all this but I just wondered if anyone can help. Bought a 1.6 Greenline Elegance and have just filled up brim to brim. Live in Sheffield the city of seven valleys and have not yet been in fifth gear and have not fully warmed uo the engine. Actual mpg 34. Just wondered if anyone out there thinks this about right bearing in mind it has all been city driving. Many thanks Dave.

If its brand new, under 1k, then some might agree it should get better when a few more miles are driven and obviously on longer runs.

The car is on a 12 plate with 170000 miles on the clock. As I said the 80 miles done has all been up and down hills and the engine has only reached normal temperature once. Just to add I am a new member(yesterday) and find this forum very interesting. Many thanks

Sorry big mistake. I meant 17000 miles.

I think the fact that you haven't been in 5th gear says it all. I had an holiday in the Lake District at Easter and was fairly staggered by the drop in mpg from my Yeti during the week. Due to the hilly narrow roads I never got it in 5th gear either and I've six gears to go at! Your mpg will shoot up on a decent run, believe me!

The Greenline is very high geared and not really designed for those whose main usage is town driving.   If yours is,  then I suspect you will not only fail to achieve the good fuel economy you were hoping for,  but you will also have problems with regeneration of the particulate filter system,  which really needs fairly high speed sustained for ten to twenty minutes to complete.   It'll still be fun to drive,  and have all the other advantages of Yeti ownership,  but unless your use will include regular longer distance trips,  you might want to reconsider your choice of model.
I've just completed my first year with a Greenline,  almost 10,000 miles (from new),  and my average fuel consumption is 52.6mpg.

Thank you both for replys. Yes I see both points of view and I guess you are both right.I had an Octavia six years ago and have always wanted to go back to Skoda. I am very pleased with the Yeti and probably got a bit carried away with the figure 61.3. I ought to let my partner drive it as she never goes above 30 mph!!. Once again thanks for your comments.

currently driving a 1.6TDI Octavia.

jibbling about locally=low to mid 40's

A reasonable 25+ mile run, low to middle 50's

A long leisurely Summer all-day Sunday  sightseeing  run, say 100 to 120 miles= low 60's

Leaving gear selection to the DSG.

Had my Greenline for 20 months - just over 10,000 miles.  First two fills were 51.0 and 49.5mpg.  Lowest (winter) 44.2, highest (summer) 55.3.  Average from day one to trade-in for Yeti 2 (Outdoor SE 110 4x4) was 48.4.  Hilly terrain with some shortish trips during the week but usually got a longer run-out at the weekend.  Great car but I fancied the 4x4 at some point and bit the bullet last October to beat the price hike   (great deal through John at Carfile and Steve at Rainworth).

Enjoy your Greenie but give it a chance to stretch its legs now and again.  Great excuse for trips to the seaside or countryside!

I get about 51mpg generally around the Lake District rising to 60 mpg on long journeys especially if limited to 60mph.

Very dependant on journey, wind direction and average speed.

I've had my greenline for 2 years with 45,000 on the clock, around town average between 40 - 47mpg, on a run can get up to 70mpg if driving like a grandad behind a truck, I also tow trailers occasionally, which kills consumption to high 30's. But over the 2 years averaging 51ish mpg. Have a look at my fuelly link in my signature.

Good engine, fun on the twisty bits. Enjoy!

Still playing with my Yeti 1.6 elegance greenline. Love the car and still finding lots of extras which I didnt know I had. Just wondering if the engine stop and start really does save you fuel. Was a bit concerned the first time it happened but on touching the clutch away you go again.Had a few looks from other drivers!!!

My new Yeti Greenline will have this when it comes, but I have never driven a car with this system before.

However was given a lift by a colleage on Thurday in a Merc which had the stop start system and after the initial strangeness of the engine stopping each time the car is stationary and out of gear, soon began to appreciate the quiet when stationary.

The Merc system seemed weird though. If stationary with the clutch up and the engine stopped, if  the handbrake is then applied the engine immediately starts up again. Couldn't quite get the logic behind this? Does the Yeti do the same?

I recently drove a Rapid 1.4TSi DSG as a loan car. I didn't know it had Stop Start until I stopped at a level crossing. I found that it was very easy to use and with the DSG it was the brakes that controlled it.  If you just rolled to a stop with minimal use of the brakes it didn't stop but fairly heavy pressure on the brake did. In this case slight easing on the brake pedal immediately started the engine.

I can't say how it effects the fuel consumption as I didn't have it long enough to find out.

Agree with this.

Had mine 3 years and the mileage was similar before it went to a new home last week.

Low 40's to late 40's around town, up to 60mpg on a reasonable run.

I did once get 75mpg on one M62 run at 70mph for most of the journey but the tail wind was pretty impressive.

The reverse trip had the mpg down in the low 40's.

Now done 4,300 miles in my Greenline II since new.

Average = 49 MPG.  The majority of driving has been around town. With an long run roughly once or twice every month.
