Internet cuts off after phone call - Sky?

Featured Replies

Quote,

Yes, correct. But this is the issue. Alongside the internet signal dropping after the phone is used, if I connect a filter to the other socket in the lounge I get no line at all (from that socket).

Sounds like the whole wiring is ****ed up in your house,  builders or electricians wire up the phone wiring these days, not pukka engineers. Tell the developer of your house to sort this out.

I'm leaning that way too Soot1e to be honest - I just want to switch over the microfilter on the main hub and see what happens, that might be faulty.

I have a few other niggling issues so will drop them a line.

Do all the other extensions work? If you move the router another socket, does it work?

Even though our socket upstairs worked for phone, it didn't for Internet when I had to relocate for some work to be done. Iirc wire 3 wasn't connected downstairs which stopped upstairs working.

Again...

I've seen routers where the PSU is borderline and the call ending causes an increase in the requirement from the router and the DSL drops.

That was IIRC also with a sky customer and sky didn't argue and said, er we'll send you our a new PSU.

That fixed it, so I'd suggest it might be worth a call.

OK the source of the extensions should all come from the master socket or daisy chained off one another. Check that they are all wired correctly. The only connections you need are 2,3 & 5 so from the master socket (the lower part is removable to add extensions) all the 2's should have the same colour connected, all the 3's should have the same colour connected and all the 5's should have the same colour connected. If any other connections are made (1,4 or 6) then disconnect them.

I have found in the past either the issue is mis-wired extensions or faulty micro-filters however if you are 100% sure the fault is not on your side of the front door then it is NOT unknown to be a fault at the exchange (left and shift or card swap).

Yes with phones. There are points all over the house - lounge x2, kitchen and then each bedroom (x4) has a phone point. We only have 3 phones - lounge, kitchen and our bedroom. All run off the sockets with no issues.

OK understand, another avenue to pursue.

Looking like Friday is going to be a day of testing and taking sockets to bits! I will have a check.

If this is a new build there should somewhere be a BT Master Socket.

Can you trace where the BT line enters the building ?

This is what I used to solve mine.

Socket wiring colours is shown in the 2nd pic. Also has the master socket wiring info as well

I already answered that one and Coop has found it, it's an external one.
